I\'d say the actual scene, though filled with awkwardness at the beginning, has more than enough signs to point to a romantic attraction between the two of them. It\'s less sexy, more sweet and touching, a rare moment of peace before jumping over the edge.

* The female Shepard's relationship with Garrus in [[MassEffect Mass Effect 2]] at the beginning fits this to a T. There is neither any romantic attraction between them at first, nor any that develops later on: Shepard just offers to sleep with Garrus in the middle of a conversation and Garrus replies [[IfItsYouItsOkay "Well, why the hell not?"]]. The dialogue that ensues is initially all about reconciling the fact that it's an [[InterspeciesRomance Interspecies Romance]] but the focus rapidly and subtly shifts to Garrus revealing [[TheWoobie how lost and lonely he really is, how he's filled to the brim with self-doubt]] and how Shepard is the only person in the galaxy who can give him even a moment's solace.

Some draw a distinction between "FriendsWithBenefits" and "FuckBuddies". In this view, "FuckBuddies" are couplings with ''no'' emotional relationship, but simply [[strike:good]] great sex. "FriendsWithBenefits", by contrast, provide sex ''and'' friendship, but not as much emotional intimacy as a full-blown romance. Whether or not such a distinction actually exists is [[YourMileageMayVary highly subjective]].

* In ''JackieBrown,'' Louis and Melanie seem to have this sort of realtionship. However, YMMV on this, since Melanie seems to be a bit of slut, although she seems to like Louis- he's an old friend whom she hasn't seen in a long time. However, this all goes to shit when [[spoiler:Louis shoots her for trying to take the half million for herself, plus being overly annoying, even for her.]]

** More accurately, Carly is scared of a RelationshipUpgrade because she's used to her and her brother wrecking their relationships and never speaking to the other person after they break up. In a way, it's also something of a deconstruction of the GirlOfTheWeek format and how a real person would be affected by relationships which seem to only last {{one night|Stand}}, days or barely weeks.
