** There is also a possible, even bigger example. Starting in Season 4, the show unexpectedly dropped hints that seem to point to Adrien and Felix being sentimonsters, magical creatures controlled by whoever possesses the "amok" used to create them. Critics of this theory point to the sudden introduction of hints as a sign of being forced in by the writers, possibly after reading previous senti!Adrien fics. If this does turn out to be true, it would be either this trope or AscendedFanon.

Yes, this is fanwanky, but at the time of publication Meta-Ten could not have been the Valeyard.

** The comic book story "The Forgotten" involves a scene where the Meta-Crisis Tenth Doctor in an [[EvilCostumeSwitch all-black outfit and a beard]] appears and starts telling the Doctor that he's a future version of him who wanted his regenerations, and he has now become the Valeyard. The Tenth Doctor is unconvinced because 1) it's impossible for him to have got there, and 2) he would never think a rubbish BeardOfEvil was a good idea, causing the Meta-Crisis Doctor to identify himself as actually being a villainous alien in disguise. This is all a swipe at the popular fandom theory that the Sixth Doctor villain, the Valeyard, said to be 'a regeneration from between the Doctor's tenth and final regenerations' and motivated by a desire to steal the future regenerations of his past self, is actually the Meta-Crisis Tenth Doctor (a clone of the Tenth Doctor created without the ability to regenerate).

** Noah and Cody returning to the competition was in response to their [[EnsembleDarkhorse unexpected popularity]] among the fans, Chris even lampshades this by looking straight into the camera and introducing them as, "returning favorites". Ezekiel is similar in that regard (thanks to the aforementioned ''Comeback'' fic making him a major character), although he doesn't last much longer than he did the first time.

** "Remembrances," a Book 4 ''Korra'' episode and spiritual successor to "The Ember Island Players," does this in spades. * Supposedly, the skit in ''WesternAnimation/{{The Powerpuff Girls|1998}}'' episode of "The City of Clipsville" where the girls are ValleyGirl teenagers who hook up with their evil counterparts, the Rowdyruff Boys, was intended to mock fans who ship them. The fact went over the shippers' heads and it incresed them ten-fold, to the point where a ''very'' large percentage of PPG fanfiction is made up of PPG/RRB shipping. Another episode has Ms. Keane and Professor Utonium pairing up but shows how ''awful'' it would be. The Keane/Professor paring is still one of the most popular pairings in the series.
