* ''ComicBook/KatyKeene''

* Invoked in an issue of ''ComicBook/SpiderMan''. Peter and Mary Jane are out ice skating with (whom he thought were) Peter's returned parents. Thanks to his powers, he can skate perfectly, but MJ warns him that he could accidentally tip people off to who he is, so he purposely falls over to throw them off.

Most likely averted if the story is set in [[CanadaEh snowy, ice-covered Canada]], as kids there are virtually born with ice skates!

* In the ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'' of Creator/AAPessimal, ice-skating is used as a back-handed punishment by [[CanadaEh Quirmian Acerian]] teacher Mlle de Badin-Boucher. Given a gifted but misbehaving pupil to rein in, Antoinette thinks hard about what would be both exquisite punishment and a constructive learning experience for a [[UsefulNotes/SouthAfrica Rimwards Howondalandian]] pupil. Her version of the Vimes Run for a difficult student Assassin is to take her to the local ice-skating venue[[note]] Antoinette de Badin-Boucher discovered a place in Ankh-Morpork with a large flat area and sub-zero temperatures. She got into trouble as a student Assassin for breaking into the Pork Futures Warehouse to practice her skating. As a graduate, she approached the PFW's management with a money-spinning idea. Ankh-Morpork therefore got a venue for ice-skating and [[HockeyFight ice hockey]].[[/note]] and to ''force'' her to learn to skate to an approved standard. The student in question, from a generally warm part of Howondaland, accepted this was meant to be Hell On Disc and admitted her native country would never be a force at the [[UsefulNotes/OlympicGames Hubland Winter Games]].

* A ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'' sketch featured Creator/ChrisFarley as a figure skater, repeatedly falling down, with Creator/PhilHartman providing commentary.[[note]] Doubles as IronyAsSheIsCast, as Farley was actually a good skater thanks to playing ice hockey when he was a child.[[/note]]

* ''WesternAnimation/AThousandAndOneAmericas'': At the start of the sixteenth episode, Chris, his brother and Lon are having fun skating on a recreational ice rink. Chris is skating alongside a little girl and does so well; but his brother and Lon struggle a lot to stay afoot (or a-paw in the latter's case), and the dog ultimately clashes against all other three characters (plus another kind later on), one by one. At least Chris and his brother comment on how fun it was when they're walking back home.

** Sis has done this, twice on covers. ** In Katy Keene #45, Sis bring a hula hoop on the ice, and while Katy does it fine, poor Sis falls on her butt again.

Expect a lot of imbalance, [[{{Pun}} flailing, failing]], struggling, [[OverlyLongGag shaking]], frustration, [[HilarityEnsues hilarity]] and inevitable crashing. It very often ends up with an EpicFail.

* A ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'' sketch featured Creator/ChrisFarley as a figure skater, repeatedly falling down, with Creator/PhilHartman providing commentary.

** In the film itself, Olaf actually pretty decent on the ice; it's Anna who proves to be the klutz, slipping constantly and having to hold on to [[spoiler:her sister in the film's final scene.]]

* Manny and Diego, as with the above example, weren't wearing skates in ''WesternAnimation/IceAge'', but struggled to stay standing whilst on a frozen lake. Meanwhile, Sid glided effortlessly around them in figure-eight shapes, all whilst ''carrying the baby''.

* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'': Ranma and Ryōga, in the first three episodes of the second season, and the manga they are adapted from, prove to be almost completely incompetent as ice-skaters. So bad is Ranma that he turns himself into a girl so that he's less embarrassed... only to end up skidding into PrettyBoy {{Jerkass}} Mikado, who gives Ranma-chan her FirstKiss.

* Hefty and Handy are both ice-skating failures in ''WesternAnimation/TheSmurfs'' cartoon special "The Smurfic Games".

* The ''WesternAnimation/{{Arthur}}'' episode "D.W. on Ice" has D.W. bragging that she's a great skater before an upcoming winter party; when she starts skating, she doesn't do very well. In "The Good Sport," Francine thinks figure skating is easy until [[ItMakesSenseInContext Michelle Kwan pulls her into a TV and onto an ice rink]], where she admits that skating is hard.

Note that, [[NonIndicativeName despite the name,]] the character does not have to be ice skating. It happens just as often with roller-skates.

** Sean slips on the ice rink in "Mindy's Ice Rink.

* In ''WesternAnimation/TheManyAdventuresOfWinnieThePooh'', Tigger sees Rabbit ice skating and decides to try it himself. He starts off pretty well, but soon gets into an uncontrollable spin which leads to him crashing into [[ButtMonkey Rabbit]]. After this he decides Tiggers ''don't'' like ice skating.
