* ''Videogame/GenshinImpact:'' As part of its UsefulNotes/{{Gnosticism}} inspiration, the world of Teyvat has a few cases of this:
** There used to be numerous gods all over the world, but under the edict of the mysterious Celestia, they engaged in warfare with each other in order to secure the position of the Seven Archons, which will rule over the seven nations. The Celestia is supposed to be the divinity above the Archons, but its influence is rarely ever felt [[spoiler:ever since the "cataclysm" 500 years ago]] and it's the Archons who manage the nations and their people, who rarely ever talk about Celestia in comparison to the Archons.
** In the distant past, there used to be a being called "Primordial One" who appeared from outside the world; they split their powers into 4 "Shades" that represented different aspects of them, and the 5 of them battled and won against the "dragon sovereigns" that originally ruled the world, establishing themselves as Teyvat's master, who then created humanity. Compared to Celestia, though, the Primordial One was implied to be "closer" to the world, with them overlooking the civilization's growth.

* ''Webcomic/SluggyFreelance'': Mohkadunese mythology tells of "the One", who empowered Prozoato (the Creator), Kozoaku (the Destroyer), and later Krohnus (the God of Time). In practice, Krohnus is the TopGod of a pantheon of [[DeityOfHumanOrigin other exalted mortals]], with Kozoaku a GodOfEvil and neither the One nor Prozoato obviously engaged with events.

* ''{{Manga/HeavensDesignTeam}}'' is about a troupe of designers commissioned by God to design the animals that will populate his new project Earth. The premise is {{Edutainment}} that explains animal features and certain physical limits their anatomy complies with as they struggle to meet God's incredibly vague requests. God is never seen while his only contact with the team is recorded messages or angels in business suits He sends on his behalf.

* According to ''ComicBook/HowardTheDuck'', God made the universe on commission from beings who have realities made essentially as art pieces. It was God that suggested the inclusion of actual autonomous life in this project, to make the work dynamic instead of static like others. His client balked at the risk of "competition" from new immortal intellects until He compromised by making life mortal. Fortunately, God snuck in the capacity for evolution so that it was also possible for living beings to one day achieve immortality.

## Once the Valar and Maiar more or less finished shaping Arda despite Melkor's actions, one of the Valar (Aulë) creates the Dwarves; Ilúvatar chastises him (mildly) for this, then prevents him from destroying the Dwarves and gives them free will. However, he doesn't intend to let his own creations (the Elves and Men) get upstaged, so he puts them to sleep, takes them away, and hides them until later. Some time thereafter, Ilúvatar awakens the Elves, then later (at the first rising of the Sun), he awakens Men. Exactly when the Dwarves woke up again isn't specified, but probably between the two.

* In the ''Comicbook/MarvelUniverse[='s=]'' "Cosmic Marvel" line, this is how the cosmic hierarchy works. There is one all-powerful entity, called "{{God}}", The Fulcrum, The One-Above-All, Above-All-Others or "Creator/JackKirby", who is technically omnibenevolent and omniscient, but S/He works through its agents such as [[GuardianOfTheMultiverse The Living Tribunal]], the Watchers, and the [[CosmicEntity cosmic beings Eternity, Infinity, Order, Chaos, Oblivion, Death, etc.]]. In a twist on the trope, Judeo-Christian beings such as archangels, demon lords, and so forth are even lower on the power scale and rarely have any power whatsoever outside of Earth.

* In the ''Comicbook/MarvelUniverse[='s=]'' ''Franchise/MarvelUniverse[='s=]'' "Cosmic Marvel" line, this is how the cosmic hierarchy works.

* In ''Tabletop/{{Planescape}}'' the Athar deny that the PowersThatBe are truly gods, at least the ones mortals know about, but they believe in something called The Greater Unknown, which they claim is the true source of divinity. (Athar who are priests gain their spells from this source.)

* The cosmology of ''Webcomic/KillSixBillionDemons'' begins with the supreme god YISUN, an infinite being simultaneously alive and dead, everything and nothing at once. Tormented by their circular, stagnant existence, YISUN committed divine suicide to split into the gods YIS, black goddess of everything that was, and UN, white god of everything that wasn't. YIS and UN were so horrified by each other that they warred for seven years, then made love for seven hours, and ultimately birthed 777,777 other black and white gods, who first built the heavenly city of Throne, then all kinds of life, and having various misadventures before finally killing themselves in turn to create [[TheMultiverse 777,777 new universes]], which the life they created migrated into. Despite being dead, YISUN is often depicted in myth as hanging out with their descendant gods and generally acting like they're perfectly fine. This is deliberate.

* In Roy Pond's ''Tomb Travellers'', the Egyptian gods exist but aren't really gods, in the sense that they are 1) weaker than the Christian God, and 2) completely orthogonal to human existence. They don't really need or care about humanity, they're just...there. The protagonists' intimate relationship with their God is contrasted with the hollow, lightless afterlife that Egyptian peasants get stuck in: their gods can give food and wealth (in exchange for worship), but not love. [[spoiler:No word on what happens after Julia converts those peasants.]]

** In the [[ScaryBlackMan Yokudan/Redguard]] pantheon, Ruptga, the "Tall Papa" and [[TopGod chief deity]] of their pantheon, created such a hierarchy. To note:
*** Ruptga gave purpose to Tu'whacca, another greater spirit who did not previously have one. (He was essentially a God of Life and Death in a world where everyone was immortal spirits.) Tu'whacca would be the caretaker of the [[WarriorHeaven Far Shores]] and [[{{Psychopomp}} help guide souls there]].
*** Ruptga created Sep, the Yokudan serpentine version of [[GodIsDead Lorkhan]] to help him save the lesser spirits from Satakal's ViciousCycle of devouring the world. Sep immediately began consuming the souls instead, forcing Ruptga to save them. Sep then devised the idea of Mundus, which was supposed to be an easier alternative to the Walkabout, Ruptga's method of saving the souls, but instead it trapped the souls and made it ''harder'' for them to reach the Far Shores. Thus, Ruptga punished Sep by "squashing him with [[CarryABigStick a big stick]]".
*** Some of Ruptga's children (Leki, Zeht, HoonDing) and his wife (Morwha) are also deities in the Yokudan pantheon.

* In vanilla ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'', deities have a hierarchy that measures personal power and - usually - authority. Greater gods are usually the most powerful and rule their respective pantheons (Zeus and his siblings fit this group) Intermediate gods are a rank below and still have a great deal of authority (most of the other Olympian gods would fit here), lesser gods are slightly lower (Nike and Eros would fit), while demigods are usually mortals who ascended to godhood, like Hercules.
