It soon turns out that it is carrying [[spoiler:the Osean president Vincent Harling]] on a top-secret diplomatic mission, when a traitor on board attempts to assassinate him. The attempt fails, but both pilots are killed. [[spoiler:Harling's presidential aide]] Tommy then takes over the controls to emergency-land the plane, being on only passenger with some rudimentary flight training. He manages to land the C-5 in a nearby field with a lot of encouragement from his boss and, more pertinently, some intense guidance from Nagase.
