* ''Manhwa/MagicalJxR'' has the [[{{Keet}} cheerful, childish Aru]] do this when [[spoiler:Jay's PowerLimiter snaps off]].

** In the adaptation of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast'', Zelda hugs Link to calm him down when [[spoiler:he's on the verge of being corrupted and transformed by the DarkWorld]].

A common tactic of the CuddleBug. See also KillMeNowOrForeverStayYourHand and CareBearStare, for when the hug is less literal. Compare ShutUpKiss, its more romantic SisterTrope. The LivingEmotionalCrutch may act as an ambulatory Cooldown Hug. This trope will often be used by an AllLovingHero, NiceGuy, or MoralityPet to prevent an AntiHero from [[JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope going towards a much darker path]]. TenderTears may often follow as well.

* In ''Series/TheFreshPrinceOfBelAir'' after Will's famous rant after his father abandons him ''yet again'', full of screaming and shouting and crying, while Uncle Phil stands there and watches, not sure what he can do to help. Finally, Will runs out of steam and stops shouting, before miserably asking, "...How come he don't want me, man?" All Phil does is pull Will into a hug, and then the episode ends. (Both the line and hug [[ThrowItIn were ad-libbed]], Smith drawing on the memories of his childhood friends' experiences with ParentalAbandonment and James Avery dropping character to comfort him.)

** And yes, we are talking about Undyne ''[[spoiler:sneaking inside Alphys' brain and taking control over it to publicly humiliate her beyond human belief by making her strip herself naked and fuck her own pets on live television while also awkwardly dancing and singing to the Mew Mew theme song for added embarrassment, just for the pure sadistic pleasure of it.]]''

* Kitty Pryde succeeds in calming down Wolverine with this technique in ''WesternAnimation/XMenEvolution''.

* A waitress in China [[http://europe.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2011-06/24/content_12767124.htm stopped a 16-year-old kid from killing themself]] by hugging them and giving them a kiss. Of course, she also listened to their story and revealed to them that [[YouAreNotAlone she's been in a similar situation herself]].
