School clubs play a big part in the life of any student. However, for some reason, the OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent or UnluckyEverydude does not have the social skills to get in with the popular crowd, and so must settle for the smallest club on campus: the Club Stub. These students are the hero's only friends and usually a sterling example of ThoseTwoGuys... possibly until the further addition of the MagicalGirlfriend, UnwantedHarem, AnnoyingYoungerSibling or a combination of the three catapults the club to the heights of success via strategic use of PitGirls or HoodOrnamentHottie routines. This is also generally accompanied by the inexplicable reappearance of former members, who may be added to the Unwanted Harem, if present. Generally, the association doesn't approach the level of a {{Nakama}}, since the club members are often supporting cast and not central to the plot; in fact, the original members may vanish entirely as the plot thickens. However, it serves to indicate how comically inept the lead character is at securing a social position.

A common plot point is that the Club Stub is ''just about to be disbanded'' when our hero(ine) appears because it does not have the required minimal number of members. The remaining membership will thus be very eager to recruit new people (which can range from extremely welcoming to outright forceful) and it goes without saying that the protagonist, if not this person, will be the prime target. Since most members are new to the club, plenty of AsYouKnow exposition gets justified. It is also a good way to explain why new characters line up in a DebutQueue rather than being introduced all at the same time, and why the club ends up with a RagtagBunchOfMisfits.

American media can also use the Club Stub on offense: A foil or villain will start a club specifically to exclude the hero or another positive, optimistic character. The club stays comically small, however, since so few people find the victim unlikable.

[[JapaneseSchoolClub School clubs play a big part in the life of any student. However, for some reason, the OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent or UnluckyEverydude does not have the social skills to get in with the popular crowd, student]], and so must settle for the smallest club on campus: the Club Stub. These students are the hero's only friends and usually a sterling example of ThoseTwoGuys... possibly until the further addition one of the MagicalGirlfriend, UnwantedHarem, AnnoyingYoungerSibling or first things a combination of student will do upon arriving at a new school is to check out which club they want to join. So when the three catapults new student who will be our protagonist visits the club to that will be the heights focus of success via strategic use of PitGirls or HoodOrnamentHottie routines. This is also generally accompanied by the inexplicable reappearance of former members, who may series to inquire about joining, he'll be added to the Unwanted Harem, if present. However, it serves to indicate how comically inept the lead character is at securing discuss and share a social position.

A
common plot point is that the Club Stub is ''just about to be disbanded'' when interest with. But our hero(ine) appears gets more than he (or she) bargained for. While the clubroom is strangely empty, the welcome he gets is a warm one, sure enough. In fact, it's suspiciously warm, and perhaps even forceful.

The reason for this soon becomes clear. The club was just about to be disbanded when our hero appeared. The most common reason the club finds itself on the chopping block is
because it does of low membership, and even if it's not have the required minimal number only reason, lack of members. interest will still be at least a contributing factor. The remaining membership will is thus be very eager to recruit new people (which can range from extremely welcoming to outright forceful) and it people. It goes without saying that the protagonist, if not this person, protagonist will be the prime target. target. This hapless first-year student will find himself with the club's very existence on his shoulders, and the first challenge our hero will face is to help the club [[DebutQueue gather the required minimum number of members]] and re-establish the necessary infrastructure to stop the school's authorities from giving the club the axe.

Starting a series centered around a school club with this plot has a few functional advantages.
Since most members are will be just as new to the club, club as our hero, plenty of AsYouKnow exposition gets justified. It is also a good way to explain why new characters line up in a DebutQueue rather than being introduced all at the same time, and why the club ends up with as a RagtagBunchOfMisfits.

American media can also use the Club Stub on offense: A foil or villain Keep in mind that not all clubs with low membership will start be in danger of being dissolved. They might exist outside of a club school setting and are not beholden to any school authorities. It might even have been started by an antagonist specifically to exclude the hero or another positive, optimistic character. The Such a club stays will stay comically small, however, since so few people find the victim unlikable.

Hey, officially the veracity of Hobbes\' existence has neither been confirmed nor denied. In fact, Bill Watterson explicitly avoided creating plushes of Hobbes or animations of the characters just to keep from settling the issue. Claiming him to be strictly imaginary as though it happened to be confirmed fact is therefore not only misleading but an outright lie. It is left up to the individual to decide.

** This is one of the reasons the series is so fond of WhoNeedsOvertime; since they have ''just'' enough guys to field a team, virtually all of their full-timers play on offense, defense, ''and'' special teams - meaning that the team would simply be too exhausted to play competently should a game get to overtime.
