* Podcast/MomCantCook: While lots of CanonWelding goes on that naturally involves callbacks, there are also other examples:
** At the start of the episode on A Ring of Endless Light, Andy declares that he's Luke, and then scoffs at the audience for being "idiots" for actually believing him, referencing the previous episode's RunningGag of copying Jamie's habit of lying to the audience and then scoffing at them.
** Andy states that Kelly's dad from Film/CadetKelly has a "Cosmo Cola energy", then notes that Cosmo at least has the excuse of being an alien.
* In Podcast/RelativeDisasters the fraudulent guidebook that dooms the Donner Party is compared to the book that Gregor MacGregor published as part of the Poyais scheme.

* In Animation/BreadBarbershops "Bread and Baguette, Part 2", Choco and Wilk bring Big Head Cupcake from the first episode to Bread, Big Head Cupcake being clearly happy that Bread gave him a makeover and having married and had a kid since then, all in a bid to give Bread back his courage so that he'll fight back against Baguette. Choco holds up a tablet and shows Bread how much he's impacted his other customers, all of which are from previous episodes; the donut hole kid from "Munchkin Donut" wants to be a barber, Butter from "Butter Fingers" won a Best Actor Award at the Bakery Film Festival, the thug pie from "Bully Pie" is imprisoned but thinks of himself as the prettiest of the inmates, and Soboro Ppang and his crush from "Soboro Ppang's Crush" are planning to get married soon.

* WesternAnimation/Bionicle: Mask of Light contains a neat cross-media callback that also doubles as a ShoutOut to the Mata Nui Online Game, the fan-favorite web-game that helped popularize the brand. Lewa asks Takua if he's ever flown a Gukko bird, to which he responds that he hasn't flown one by himself, but he's been a second once, referring to one of the MNOGs minigames.

* WesternAnimation/Bionicle: Mask of Light contains a Light:
** One
neat cross-media callback that also doubles as a ShoutOut to the Mata Nui Online Game, the fan-favorite web-game web game that helped popularize the brand. Lewa asks Takua if he's ever flown a Gukko bird, to which he responds that he hasn't flown one by himself, but he's been a second once, referring to one of the MNOGs minigames. At the time, this was something of a MythologyGag, as MNOG was not deemed part of the canon continuity. Later, partially because of this nod, the game was retroactively accepted as at least half-canon.
** The movie makes it clear that it's not the first part of a story, but a continuation to the books and comics. The Turaga reference the Toa's recent victories (against the Bohrok swarms, some defeated Bohrok even make a cameo), and Makuta bemoans that the Matoran have repeatedly opposed him. In a fully animated and voice acted DeletedScene, Makuta even elaborates on his past evil plans and the monsters the Toa have fought as he contemplates whether to continue the tactic.

I've seen multiple people mix up Mythology Gag with this trope, so it probably also deserves a comparison.

* Call-Back: "RememberWhenYouBlewUpASun The only way to take out these mooks is by doing that again!" (The earlier event happening again is plot-relevant.)
* CallForward: "These mooks are overwhelming us! Too bad you don't have the power to blow up a sun!" (It's mentioned, but not done yet.)

* MythologyGag: "These mooks are overwhelming us! I wish we lived in an alternate universe where we had a sun destroyer on our side and could wipe the floor with them." (The reference is to an event that happens in a different continuity, and which may or may not happen in this one.)

* WebVideo/NightmareTime: The episode "Yellow Jacket" makes multiple references to previous entries in the Hatchetfield series.
** When , he tells her "Your apotheosis is upon you," a reference to the ArcWords of Theatre/TheGuyWhoDidntLikeMusicals.
** also tells Hannah that he will eat the citizens of Hatchetfield, "right the fuck up," said with the same delivery as Wiggly in Theatre/BlackFriday.

** Early on, Mei's friends ask her to come to karaoke with them but she declines due to it being cleaning day with Ming. .
** Mei and Miriam's first and last scenes together both involve them bumping butts. The first time, Mei is in her human form and it only involves her and Miriam. The second time, Mei is in her panda form and Miriam, Priya, Abby, all join in together.
** After Ming embarrasses Mei at the Daisy Mart, she tries to console Mei in the car by helping to comb back a bit of stray hair that had fallen in her face. Mei does the same when she comes across the teenage version of Ming in the astral plane in her own moment of grief.
** [[spoiler:During their walk to the first sealing ceremony, Mr. Gao tells Mei what's actually sung isn't important, only that the person sings from their heart (for instance, he says he prefers to sing Tony Bennett songs). During the impromptu ceremony to re-seal the panda spirits of the other Lee women, their singing alone isn't enough, but then 4*Town joins in with their opening number, which grants the magic the power needed to work.]]

Adding Production Throwback since that's for non-plot-related throwbacks, and because I've seen this trope used where that trope would be more appropriate

The opposite of this is either Foreshadowing (a forward reference done in a previous episode) or CallForward (a "fake" forward reference in a flashback or prequel). See also ChekhovsGun, ChekhovsBoomerang, BrickJoke, BookEnds, MythologyGag, SequelEpisode, InternalHomage, and MeaningfulEcho.
