# On the black woman's side, they can be accused of being "sellouts" in dating white men (traditionally Black men get the brunt of the backlash, but it can happen to women too). In Western society, black women are usually expected to hold the family down, and only be attracted to black men. If her lover is wealthy on top of being white, expect accusations that she's a GoldDigger as well.

2. On the white man's side, they can also expect derision. Due to the very narrow standards of beauty, black women aren't typically seen as attractive or desirable partners (though there's a strange dichotomy as black women also carry the hypersexual nympho stereotype) so a white man can be seen as "trading down" or strange for not wanting to date a white woman. Also, there can be a RaceFetish element that dates back to the 1600s slave trade with the rape of many African slaves.

So instead of being kept apart only to want each more like black men and white men, white men and black women don't have the history of being "denied" each other but still carries the "forbidden fruit" element.

[[WhereDaWhiteWomenAt Black Man/White Woman couples]], as they are portrayed in the media have their taboos and historical connatations, whether it's played for comedy or drama. White Men and Black Woman relationships aren't as common in media but when they are, usually two factors working in the narrative:

1. On the black woman's side, they can be accused of being "sellouts" in dating white men (traditionally Black men get the brunt of the backlash, but it can happen to women too). In Western society, black women are usually expected to hold the family down, and only be attracted to black men.

2. On the white man's side, they can also expected widespread derision. * ''ToKillAMockingbird'': Dolphus Raymond is a white man who has children with a black woman - although he has to pretend to be the town drunk so that the town can deal with it. Note that, as the trope description says, a white man fathering children with a black woman was unremarkable (although this was less the case as slavery shrank further into the past and near-total segregation of the races became the ideal scenario as far as genteel white society was concerned). What the other white residents couldn't forgive him for was actually acknowledging his children and living with his family in the black part of town.
