I don't really think this trope apply for this game. While In Universe, the orbs are for Spyro, in-game their placement is fully neutral so it's more the hero and the villain fighting on equal ground than the hero countering the villain with his own tactic.

* The final battle of VideoGame/Spyro2RiptosRage involves competing with Ripto to gather orbs which give special powers to whomever collects them.

In response, the Carrier group was expected to turn back south to retake Midway, where Kido Butai would be waiting. ** Kurt Zisa in the first game alternates between three distinct phases in a 1-2-3-2 pattern. In its first phase, it only uses physical attacks, after locking the magic abilities of Sora and his teammates; the target is the orbs in its hands that appear after it performs the seal. The second phase has it collapse in the sand, where its own HP bar is vulnerable. Then its third phase uses only magic based attacks, after creating a barrier around itself; the only effect physical attacks have on the barrier is to drop MP-restoring orbs.
