* In the MarvelCinemsaticUniverse:

* ''Film/{{Thor}}'' changes Jane Foster's job from nurse to astrophysicist.

* Several in ''Film/BlackPanther2018'':
** Princess Shuri is a historian and anthropologist in the comics, but TheMovie made her a scientist (and the head of Wakanda's Science Department at that).
** Nakia went from being a Dora Milaje to a War Dog (Wakanda's spy group).
** Okoye gets an Adaptation Job ''Promotion'', going from only a noteworthy Dora Milaje in the comics to being TheLeader of said order.
** Zuri went from being a veteran Wakandian soldier to a HighPriest who is a retired War Dog.
** Ayo is already expelled by the Dora Milaje in the comics when introduced, but she's still employed in TheMovie.
** Similar to Okoye, the film version of M'Baku gets promoted to the Wakandan high council at the end of the film.
** The film made Erik Kilmonger's father a War Dog [[spoiler:and Prince of Wakanda]].

* ''ComicBook/JemAndTheHolograms'':

** Kimber in the cartoon wrote all of Jem and the Holograms songs. In the comic this goes to her sister Jerrica (aka Jem, te lead singer), which [[TheWorkaholic only adds to her stress]].

* In the ''WesternAnimation/{{Jem}}'' cartoon Rio has a [[NewJobAsThePlotDemands vaguely defined job]] that seems to be related to Jem's band somehow. In the ''ComicBook/JemAndTheHolograms'' comics he is a music journalist. Unlike in the cartoon, they don't meet until adulthood. Rio's job caused him to become introduced to Jerrica

** The eponymous ''Series/TokuSouSentaiDekaranger'' are all cops. ''Series/PowerRangersSPD'' faithfully follows this except for the Red and Yellow Rangers, who are introduced as thugs. The Red Ranger also quits by the end of the series, while the Blue and Green Rangers were both eventually promoted to higher ranks in subsequent {{Crossover}}s. The Pink Ranger is also an ex-model, something not present in her sentai counterpart's backstory.

* In ''Literature/TheSnowQueen'', Gerida is from a middle-class family. Anna, her counterpart in ''Disney/{{Frozen}}'', is made into a Royal Princess.

* In the original ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'' comics, Peter Parker makes a living selling photographs to the Daily Bugle. In ''ComicBook/UltimateSpiderMan'', he instead gets a job developing the Bugle's web site.
* In the ''ComicBook/{{Superman}}'' comics, Lex Luthor started out as a MadScientist. Then came Post-Crisis, he became a CorruptCorporateExecutive, which almost all incarnations since then follows; likely inspired by his portrayal in the [[Film/SupermanTheMovie 1978 movie]] where he's more of a real estate agent. Following ''ComicBook/SupermanBirthright'' and ''ComicBook/InfiniteCrisis'', Lex is a combination of both, which all incarnations since follow as well.

* Happens a lot in ''Franchise/PowerRangers'':

*** The eponymous ''Series/MightyMorphinPowerRangers'' are high-school students, whereas ''Series/KyoryuSentaiZyuranger'', ''Series/GoseiSentaiDairanger'', and ''Series/NinjaSentaiKakuranger'', the ''Franchise/SuperSentai'' series they were based on, are all adults (mostly) with day jobs.

** ''Series/PowerRangersTimeForce'' is a TruerToTheText adaptation of ''Series/MiraiSentaiTimeranger'' except for eventual occupations of two characters; The Red Time Force Ranger becomes the co-leader along with the SixthRanger who is SparedByTheAdaptation) of the StateSec at the end of the series, and the Yellow Time Force Ranger is not a professional wrestler.

** Cersei Lannister [[spoiler: was able to take the Iron Throne for herself]]. She also [[spoiler: names Qyburn as her Hand]].
** Jon Snow [[spoiler: was crowned King in the North]].

* ''VideoGames/HarvestMoonBackToNature'' reuses many of the characters that appeared in ''VideoGame/HarvestMoon64'', however almost everyone now has a different job in Mineral Town compared to their old roles in Flower Bud Town. For example, Ann's family used to own a ranch in ''64'', but Ann and her father now runs an inn while Gray is a blacksmith.

** Mia Dearden is introduced as a prostitute, but her counterpart Thea Queen's first job is a bar manager.

* Hank Henshaw goes from scientist to (former) director of D.E.O. The same can be said to ComicBook/MartianManhunter, who impersonated him for over a decade and then promoted to the real thing.

** Tyrion Lannister was named by Daenerys Targaryen as her Hand.

** Cat Grant went from columnist and reporter to a media mogul and CEO, though she do occasionally mentions that she started as the former two.

* In ''Series/{{The Flash 2014}}'', Ronnie Raymond went from being a jock to an esteemed engineer.

** In ''VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver'', Blue is shown to have become the new gym leader of Virdian Gym. His anime counterpart, Gary, however, instead ends up aiming to be a Pokemon Professor like his grandfather.

** In ''VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue'' Misty is a gym leader. In the ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'' anime her three older sisters (who are {{Canon Foreigner}}s) are the gym leaders of her gym instead.

** In ''VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver'', Blue is shown to have become the new gym leader of Virdian Gym. His anime counterpart, Gary, however, ends up aiming to be a Pokemon Professor like his grandfather instead.

* In ''Literature/ADogsPurpose'', Maya is search-and-rescue dog Ellie's second handler after her original one ends up with a CareerEndingInjury. The film adaptation had Ellie being shot and killed instead of her handler. Thus, the film created a CanonForeigner reincarnation named Tino. Maya was changed into a college student who adopts Tino.

* In the original ''Literature/{{Busytown}}'' books by Creator/RichardScarry, Father Cat was a grocer. The 1994 animated series, the Busy World of Richard Scarry, changes Father Cat's occupation to travel agent. Nowadays in the 21st century, various Internet services like Expedia, etc. have [[TechnologyMarchesOn made travel agents not as prevalent]] as they once were.

* Barney Rubble in ''Film/TheFlintstones'' who's Fred's co-worker at the Quarry, while in the cartoon his job wasn't never even revealed.
