* Manga/Bleach: In the "Everything But the Rain" flashback arc, it turns out that [[spoiler:Masaki Kurosaki unwittingly did this trope. When the Hollow Grand Fisher attacked her and Ichigo, Masaki didn't just sacrifice herself to shield Ichigo, but actively tried to fight back using Blut (an offensive and defensive power that came with being a pure-blooded Quincy, which Masaki was). However, Yhwach just so happened to take away her power at that tragic moment, so Masaki ended up letting herself stand in the way of a powerful Hollow with nothing to defend herself.]]

* Literature/TheScholomance: Actively enforced by the titular school during alchemy classes as part of the underlying triage operation. These classes involve brewing antidotes to common poisons and toxins and testing them on yourself. If you don't get it right, you're liable to poison yourself instead (which, not-so-coincidentally, is great motivation to get it right). Ironically, the Scholomance being what it is, poisoning yourself in lab class is considered one of the more humane ways to die.

* In Webcomic/KevinAndKell, this is the truth behind the Herd Thinners executive's murder in the Rabbit's Revenge arc. Danielle Kindle had been sent to kill him with a gun that launches a carrot-shaped stake, but was unable to go through with it. The executive prepares to eat her, but accidentally shoots himself with the gun.

* Film/BoyEatsGirl: Nathan is unwisely foolingly around while drunk with a noose around his neck. When his mom bursts in suddenly, it causes him to slip and hang himself.

Engaging in risky behavior that can lead to one killing themself if not done correctly, like autoerotic asphyxiation is another way this trope has been used. RecklessGunUsage in particular has also claimed more than its share of IJustShotMarvinInTheFace accidental victims.

Can overlap with AccidentNotMurder. Contrast SuicideNotAccident and BungledSuicide, both of which are inversions. Also contrast MakeItLookLikeAnAccident, in which a character murders another, but tries to stage it as a freak accident. If they try to stage it as a suicide, then it's NeverSuicide. MurderBySuicide and its subtropes are closely related, however, key difference is for MurderBySuicide, someone or something else coerces, compels, or tricks a character into killing themself (and all examples like this should be listed there).

* WesternAnimation/HazbinHotel: In life, Angel Dust was an addict who overdosed on the drug he's named for in 1947, resulting in his death. In Hell, he continues to do drugs, though he can't die from them due to being a demon.

* Film/BodiesBodiesBodies ends with the reveal that David's death, the inciting incident of the plot, was actually one of these rather than a murder. Specifically, he was drunkenly trying to film a Website/TikTok video of himself opening a bottle of champagne with a sAreKool like he saw Greg do at the start of the film, only to accidentally slit his own throat in the process. Unfortunately, by the time somebody decided to check his phone, everybody in the house save for Bee and Sophie was dead, having assumed that David was murdered and that the murderer was one of them and proceeding to kill each other out of paranoid suspicion.
