* Over the years, Scans Daily has become somewhat infamous for this kind of behavior (as well as PoliticalCorrectnessGoneMad to a lesser extent). So much so that the guy who wrote [[http://www.funnybookbabylon.com/2008/03/31/fandom-readership-and-snark/ this]] article attributes Scans Daily as a major cause of the 2008 spike in comics {{Hatedom}}. This varies by post--many comics are praised beyond all reason, and others have a balanced reception. But if your favorite happens to fall into the "negative" reception zone, it's going to hurt.

* Game developers and publishers. If they make a poorly received game, they must make five more good games before people forget about it... And even then they're lucky if they do. And GOD help these developers and publishers if they got caught in a negative controversy. The fandom will define them on those controversies or negative things more than whatever good things they do, and act like they do it because they 'care about the industry that these companies are destroying'.

In the scientific community, there's nothing close to a consensus on whether increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would be a ''net'' positive or a ''net'' negative, or what a "safe" rate of atmospheric [=CO2=] increase would be. However, there is a lot of consensus that, while there will be many small to moderate negative effects, these negative effects will not include the world spontaneously bursting into flames or sea levels rising by more than a hundred meters (and even that would require ''completely'' melting the ice caps, which would take tens of thousands of years). This phenomenon has been taken to such an extreme that ''other negative effects of fossil fuel use'' are ignored in favor of the negative effects of global warming. And they also ignore the negative effects of "renewable" energy, like the very environmentally unfriendly processes involved in manufacturing - and disposing of - solar panels and electric car batteries.

For example, how often are you reminded that the reason for rising mercury levels in the oceans is because of the trace amounts of mercury in coal, which then ends up in the atmosphere? ** Creator/ElectronicArts gets this the worst amongst other companies. They have a lot of terrible things... But a couple of things they actually funded and saw great interest in are completely forgotten and they go un-credited for. For example, did you know some of Origin's later games (like ''VideoGame/UltimaOnline'') were only possible with their financial support? Or that when a couple of studios who co-developed a game pitched an idea to them, they suggested making it a sequel to another well-received game, and the result was a SacredCow? What game was that, you might ask? ''VideoGame/SystemShock 2.'' And despite being known to have killed ''VideoGame/CommandAndConquer'' franchise, for its remastered version, EA actually went out of their way to re-gather the original crews of Westwood Studios (that they shut down) and had them recreate the magic of the retro game experience as faithfully as possible, resulting a surprisingly praised remaster of some of the classic titles. And you can probably count with your hands on how many people actually acknowledge that sometimes ''EA can do good things at times'', the rest chose to just remember their ''other'' terrible things.

And you can probably count with your hands on how many people actually acknowledge that sometimes ''EA can do good things at times'', choosing the rest chose to just still remember their ''other'' terrible things.

''VideoGame/SystemShock 2.''

** Creator/{{Konami}} gets this a lot, particularly [[AmericansHateTingle in the West]] where they've received ''massive'' MemeticLoser status. It would be easier to count how many people in the West still appreciate what they produce today. Since their shifting away from console games, Western fans tend to lash out at anything bad or controversial they do (their scruffs with Creator/HideoKojima and their [[ExecutiveMeddling meddling]] with ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain'' being two major examples) and cite those things as examples of "Konami doesn't make games anymore, they're a gambling and ''mobage'' company now!", in spite of Konami continuing to produce well-received arcade games (just ask any fan of current arcade {{Rhythm Game}}s). When ''[[VideoGame/{{Bomberman}} Bombergirl]]'', an actual arcade game and not a pachinko or other gambling-related spinoff, was unveiled at JAEPO 2017, it was singled out as "more proof that Konami only ever does bad things now" while the rest of the arcade games Konami showed at that event were largely ignored by Western fans. Notably, ''Bombergirl'' and Konami pachinko games are [[NoExportForYou Japan-only]], but it doesn't stop Western fans from [[ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch complaining about games that they don't play]].

Additionally, Konami has been taking care of their game franchises that [[NoExportForYou somehow never left Japan]], such as ''VideoGame/LivePowerfulProBaseball'' and a leftover from Hudsonsoft: ''Momotaro Densetsu''. The two titles actually topped the charts of Japanese gaming and the latter ''actually won a Japanese award''. Of course, as far as the Western community goes, it's like they don't exist at all.

I don't think a right-wing cable news channel from Australia should be cited as having accurate information.

* ExecutiveMeddling - Normally, when this trope is mentioned on the wiki (As it is in real life), it is almost ''always'' used in a negative context. However, [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools there have been just as many instances where executive meddling didn't actually harm the work or even made it better]] - they rarely if ever get mentioned, since nobody complains if the system works.

It's ironic that villainous characters are more popular than heroic characters despite being equally "samey".

* '''[[DysfunctionJunction Everyone Is Messed Up]]''': See that well-adjusted character over there? [[BreakTheCutie Don't expect it to last]]. There's a reason that [[ThereAreNoPsychologists therapists are in short supply]] in many stories, both because of the assumption that TrueArtIsAngsty, and the belief that conflicted characters are more interesting. "Pure" heroes, like the KnightInShiningArmor, are seen as largely generic and similar to each other (and therefore are usually under-represented) while {{Dark and Troubled Past}}s and questionable morals make villains and {{Anti Hero}}es distinct and recognizable, even if the troubled pasts and questionable morals keep expressing themselves in the same ways.
