It is a AffectionateParody of the genre verging on horror comedy where everyone is a smartass familiar with monster tropes and movies but serious crimes occur.

Added DiffLines:

The books are notable for being a WorldOfSnark set in a BrokenMasquerade world where vampires have revealed themselves after the 2008 housing crisis. They live in the revitalized city of New Detroit, which they have turned into a massive tourist trap. Not all vampires are wealthy, though, and most of them are actually quite poor as only the leadership has access to the vast fortune they've made exploiting vampire tourism. The series deals with class issues, race, and also LighterAndSofter depictions of vampires (which is revealed to be an in-universe ploy by vampires to exploit the public).

Added DiffLines:

[[folder: Series Wide]]
* BrokenMasquerade: Vampires came out of the coffin in 2008 when they bailed out the US economy in exchange for legal favors.
* ClassicalMovieVampire: A few of these exist in the setting as the Council of Ancients exists in the Carpathian Mountains. Most vampires treat them with a measure of pity rather than respect.
* {{Dhampyr}}: Exist in this universe as a product of a vampire having a child with a human or each other.
* {{Dracula}}: Derided in-universe as a fame-seeking glory hound.
* EldritchAbomination: The Elder Gods who created the vampire race are these and were put to sleep or killed by their former followers.
* FantasticRacism: Most religious communities in the United States condemn vampires as unholy, which turns out to be correct as they are repulsed by religious symbols.
* FangThpeak: Happens when a vampire tries to talk with their fangs out. It's considered embarrassing and childish.
* FurAgainstFang: Played with. Some shifters hate vampires and some vampires look down on shifters but the two species are related. Also, many vampires employ werecreatures.
* FrozenFashionSense: Vampires have this to an extent with some dealing with said trends better than others.
* HorrorHunger: All vampires have this but it actually lessens with age with Ancients only needing a little bit of blood to sustain themselves.
* LooksLikeOrlok: An inevitable result of aging to Ancient One status. This is less of an issue than people think as they inevitably have gained shapeshifting powers by that point.
* MonsterProgenitor: Lamia is said to be the first vampire. There's some hints vampires are even older than this.
* ReligiousVampire: Thoth is a Voodoo priest despite the fact vampires are explicitly harmed by religious symbols and invocations. Thoth explains that he is fully aware of the contradiction and that it is why it is doubly important to feel that way. He later mentions a NoodleIncident where he ''escaped hell'' thanks to his patrons.
** Melissa is also still a Southern Baptist despite them explicitly condemning vampires.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: Vampires are divided into three categories of Youngbloods, Old Ones, and Ancient Ones. Youngbloods suffer most of the traditional weaknesses of vampires, Old Ones can ignore most of them while being unkillable save by another vampire, and Ancient Ones are hideous Nosferatu-looking creatures who are closer to gods than men. They can have children and these children have a chance of manifesting shifter traits or coming back as a vampire when they die. They are also linked to demons as apparently they were created when ancient demons shared their blood.
* StrongerWithAge: Vampires go through three life cycles with each progressisly stronger.
* VampireMonarch: Every vampire-run city has a voivode who is the ruler of the city or territory. They answer to the Council of Ancients.
* VampiresAreRich: Man are they ever. They ''bailed out the US economy'' in 2008. Subverted in that apparently a lot of their vast wealth was fraud and they manipulated events to appear like heroes.
* VampiresAreSexGods: Some of them, particularly shape-shifting Old Ones, are. Most aren't.
* VampiresOwnNightclubs: The point of New Detroit was to exploit vampire tourism for all it was worth.
* VanHelsingHateCrimes: The people who hate vampires usually have no problem blowing up the people who are friends of vampires, tourists, willing victims, or just in the way. Vampires are also humanity's somewhat tepid defense against EldritchAbomination creatures.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: This is revealed to have been a hundred year plan by the undead to make sure the public was accepting of them when they appeared to the world. Everything from Dracula to Twilight were designed to make vampires appear sexy and romantic versus terrifying.
* VoluntaryVampireVictim: Vampires have plenty of these due to their reputation as sex gods. They also have set up [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything predatory loans to get people to become willing blood donors as an alternative to paying them off]].
[[/folder]]

Added DiffLines:

* LoopholeAbuse: Old Ones can only be killed by fellow Old Ones, so Thoth made a dagger from his dead creator's bones to kill him then used it in later assassinations.

[[caption-width-right:350: A vampire series with attitude.]]

A comedic UrbanFantasy VampireFiction series by Creator/CTPhipps published by Crossroad Press.

Peter Stone is a poor black vampire who is wondering where his nightclub, mansion, and sports car is. Instead, he is working a minimum wage job during the night shift as being a vampire isn’t all that impressive in a world where they’ve come out to mortals. Exiled from the rich and powerful undead in New Detroit, he is forced to go back when someone dumps a newly-transformed vampire in the bathroom of his gas station’s store.

This gets him fangs-deep in a plot of vampire hunters, supernatural revolutionaries, and a millennium-old French knight determined to wipe out the supernatural. Sometimes, it just doesn’t pay to get out of the coffin.

The first book, ''Straight Outta Fangton'' was released on August 19, 2016.

[[folder: Tropes across the whole series]]

* ActionGirl: Melissa is extremely dangerous, even more so when she becomes a vampire.
** Both Voivode Ashura and Fatimah turn out to be these as well.
*** Hell, every woman in the series can kick all sorts of ass.
* AffectionateParody: Between this and horror-comedy, Peter and David are living in a terrifying world with real monsters but handle it with the same aplomb as [[Film/{{Clerks}} Dante and Randal.]] They're also very-very aware of vampire tropes.
* AlternateHistory: During the 2008 financial crisis, [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything vampires bailed out the United States in exchange for legal rights and representation. They also proceeded to take advantage of this and have since been running much of the government ever since.]] It's also stated the United States Army had already encountered supernatural creatures during the Iraq War.
* BrokenAesop: Subverted with the fact black and homosexual vampires find the prejudice against vampires very different from what they endured in life.
* CannotCrossRunningWater: A DownplayedTrope example that vampires have a phobia about this and generally stay in during rainstorms. They also prefer baths to showers.
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: For the most part averted. Peter is a nice enough guy but still capable of killing on a dime anyone who gets in his way. Some are mentioned in the backstory like [[spoiler: Melissa's brother, however.]]
* CosmicHorrorStory: Zigzagged as there's apparently Cthulhu-esque horrors underneath the world but they may be the Nephilim and this is a world with God. [[OhCrap Thoth also says God may be real but he's a very small god in a very big universe.]]
* CouncilOfVampires: The Council of Ancients rules the Vampire Nation. There's also a lesser City Council in New Detroit.
* DefectorFromDecadence: The ''entire vampire race'' decided EvenEvilHasStandards and turned against the Elder Gods before exterminating their followers.
** Renaud tried to do this and become so much worse.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The vampires bailed out the United States during the 2008 Financial Crisis, only to get the government to give them special privileges and protection from which angers the public as they are perceived as receiving special treatment despite having broken the law. Worse, the vampires aren't as rich or necessary to the country as they appear but play on appearances to continue their frauds.
** Vampirism is used as a metaphor for racism and homosexuality with the BrokenAesop element played for laughs as the characters doing so are frequently talking to vampires who actually ''are'' black or homosexual and find the comparison insulting.
* EldritchAbomination: The Elder Gods are this, being horrors from another dimension sleeping under the world.
* GenreSavvy: Both David and Peter have watched far too many movies to be caught unawares.
** It turns out almost every vampire has and they're quite popular with the undead.
* {{Dhampyr}}: These exist in the setting but are considered less than their parents.
* {{Dracula}}: Apparently came up with the plan to convince humanity vampires are harmless.
* FantasticRacism: Vampires suffer from this and apparently look at humans and other supernaturals with contempt. This is a case of GrayAndGrayMorality as while vampires do commit terrible crimes, so do humans with neither side having a moral high ground.
* FullyEmbracedFiend: Averted. Most vampires seem to hold to some sort of standards to stay sane with Renaud the worst of them and that's because he thinks he's righteous.
* FurAgainstFang: Peter kills a werewolf in ''Straight Outta Fangton.'' Generally, werewolves are vampire employees, though.
** Inverted in they're, essentially, the same race with shapechangers sometimes turning into vampires when they die. A vampire's child with a human is also likely to be a shapechanger.
* HemoErotic: The bite is incredibly sexual when done with humans or other vampires. Not so much with animals (Thank God) or blood bags (ditto).
* HolyBurnsEvil: All vampires suffer from this, the point hearing Jesus, God, Buddha, or Muhammed's name causes them distress. So, really, it's more Holy Annoys Evil. [[spoiler: Renaud and his brood are also immune.]]
* HorrorHunger: The vampires of this world possess a pronounced one.
* IHateYouVampireDad: Averted with Peter who genuinely loves Thoth but is seriously distressed with how manipulative, controlling, ruthless he is. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Also, how Thoth won't use his millions to solve his money problems.]]
* ILoveYouVampireSon: Thoth has this case for Peter and [[spoiler: it becomes doubly so when you find out Peter's Thoth's ReplacementGoldfish for his dead son.]]
* HunterOfMonsters: This is apparently a common profession in the United States of America since the Bailout.
* KissOfTheVampire: The Bite is apparently very sexual and causes most humans to experience something much better than an orgasm (which also frequently happens during it as well).
* LesbianVampire: Played with as apparently all vampires are bisexual after a certain point but Peter is uncomfortable with.
* LooksLikeOrlock: Seems to be a common thing that happens to Ancients but not all of them.
* MissingReflection: Vampires lose their reflection when they become Old Ones.
* MonsterProgenitor: Lamia was the first vampire in this world and remains active. She was apparently a human who worshiped the Elder Gods (possibly Nephilim).
* MustBeInvited: If not, you can't use your powers against someone.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: Averted. While some details are different, the vampires of Straight Outta Fangton possess a lot of traditional powers and weaknesses of the undead. They even have obscure ones like a vulnerability to counting sesame seeds. The only thing which doesn't work is garlic and they actually have a vulnerable to verbena instead.
* NoSell: Most Old Ones gain this ability to the majority of vampire weaknesses.
* ThePowerOfBlood: Human blood makes a vampire stronger than animal blood, which can't sustain vampires indefinitely anyway.
* TheRenfield: Vampires call these Bloodsworn (or Bloodslaves). Humans who drink vampire blood can be mind-controlled by the vampires whose blood they've drunk. David serves as this for Peter.
* SlidingScaleOfVampireFriendliness: They can drink animal blood for a time but need human blood in order to survive. They go into an unthinking homicidal fury when they're deprived of blood for too long. They tend to have the same personalities they did in life but vampire society is corrupt and ruthless with an additional factor that they don't have the same aversion to killing they had in life (but can intellectually be against it or force themselves to feel guilt). They get most of the traditional weaknesses (crosses, fire, holy water, decapitation, and staking) but need to develop their powers like a skill. Vampires are not inherently more sexy than they were in life, though vampires prefer to rebirth sexy people for obvious reasons.
* StrongerWithAge: A pivotal point of the setting as the Old Ones rule Young Bloods autocratically while the Ancient Ones do the same to the Old Ones.
* TheUnmasquedWorld: Vampires revealed them to the public with the 2008 Financial Crash (made much-much worse in this universe by China refusing to lend America anymore money--possibly due to vampire manipulation). The vampires paid the United States debts in exchange for certain privileges over other Americans. All other supernaturals came out shortly thereafter.
** Notably, also the name of the world the series takes place in.
* VampiresAreRich: Played with and taken to the 11 at once. Vampires were apparently so rich they could ''bailout a bankrupt United States.'' It's also why they have so much power and clout in the country. It's subverted when it's revealed this was a massive fraud and they've been scrambling ever since to keep it secret while they rebuilt their fortunes. Also, only a small number of vampires are rich [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything with only the top 1% having all their money.]]
* VampiresAreSexGods: Parodied as Peter Stone is most definitely not but Thoth most definitely is. Played straight with the KissOfTheVampire being better than sex and turning even the most tepid sex becoming mind-blowing.
* VampireHunter: A very common profession since the Bailout.
* VampireMonarch: Voivodes are the rulers of cities, states, and other territories.
* VampiresOwnNightClubs: Vampires own whole casinos in this universe and the Las Vegas-like New Detroit.
* VegetarianVampire: Peter starts out as one before moving on.
* WeakenedByTheLight: Young vampires are killed or lose their powers in sunlight, depending on how old they are. Older vampires simply dislike it.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Vampires are almost irresitably compelled to count sesame seeds on hamburger buns (or in general). Even they find this to be an incredibly stupid weakness.

* AcceptableTargets: Virtually every vampire movie in the world until 2008 exists and gets zinged in the series.

** Both Voivode Ashura and Fatimah turn out to be these as well.
*** Hell, every woman in the series can kick all sorts of ass.

* ImprovisedCross: Melissa uses one of these to deal with [[spoiler: Graff Yorga.]]
* LoveMakesYouStupid:
* MoreThanMindControl:
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Both Jumping Jack Flash and [[spoiler: Graff Yorga]] employ this.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Renaud gets a couple of these at the end.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Much of the plot depends on Peter being less interested in stopping Renaud and more in killing Eaton.
* RomanticVampireBoy:
* ShoutOut: The opening is a shout-out to ''Film/{{Clerks}}'' with it explictly spelled dout.
** [[LampshadeHanging It then ''immediately'' dives into a discussion of black vampires and how few of them there are.]]
* SmugSnake:
* TragicMonster: Renaud is shown to be this despite having long since crossed the MoralEventHorizon multiple times. Voivode Ashura tries to invoke this with Eaton but it falls on deaf ears (for good reason).
** Jumping Jack Flash relates his Dorian Gray-esque [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil backstory only to get called "Rapey-Boy" for his trouble]] before being dismissed as a monster.
* TranshumanTreachery:
* UnskilledButStrong:
* VampireRefugee: An absolutely brutal {{Deconstruction}} with said character being a FantasticRacism BlackAndWhiteInsanity {{Hypocrite}} who every other vampire justifiably thinks is a psychopath.
* VampireVords: Parodied with Count Yorg who is ObfuscatingStupidity.
* VanHelsingHateCrimes: The Human Rights League is willing to blow up a hotel full of human tourists in order to frame the vampires for it. Melissa also admits to one of her congregation framing a nearby vampire for rape so he'd be killed. [[spoiler: By her, it turns out.]]
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway:
* YourTerroristsAreOurFreedomFighters:
* AndThenJohnWaAZombie: [[spoiler: The final line is revealing David is a zombie now.]]
