As of June 2023, there are 14 books in the Immortal Guardian series, including two novellas, as well as two spinoff series, The Gifted Ones and The Aldebarian Alliance.

* InconspicuousImmortal: The Immortal Guardians do their best to make sure know one knows of their existence, especially human governments and militaries.

* SideBet: It's a running joke that the Immortals will bet on absolutely anything. When a couple will finally make it official, when someone will finally ask to be transformed, who will be the next to piss Seth off enough to make him effect the whether, ''anything.'' They even keep a database so people can check what the bets are going and who is still in the running for the jackpot.

* MistakenForBetrayal: Many of the Guardians have trust issues, having been portrayed by friends in family during their mortal life or early after their transition. The strongest, however, is Seth whose [[spoiler: wife and children were slaughter by a mob raised by his daughter-in-law]]. When it becomes clear that someone is betraying the Guardians by giving sensitive information to the vampires and humans that make it harder for Guardians to survive clashes with the two groups, Seth first refuses to believe one of his group would do such a thing. Then he sees potential treachery everywhere. At various points he investigates nearly all of his Guardians, but has severe confrontations with Lisette, [[spoiler: Zach, Jared, and Aidan]] as their unrelated personal behavior comes across as very suspicious.

* AfterActionPatchUp: It's very common for the heroine of the story to have to patch up the hero after he's been grievously wounded. Sarah meets Roland after he's been staked to the ground in a quasi-crucifixion. Ami meets Marcus as he's suffering from severe blood loss after battling multiple vampires. Melanie's first major interaction is when he's unconscious after being tranqued by an unknown drug. And so and so on.

* TeleportationMisfire: After he is severely injured in a fight, Richart teleports away intending to go to safety. His disoriented brain locks on to the safest place he can think of which turns out to be the home of Jenna, his uninitiated mate who has no idea about the truth of who he really and what he really does. When he realizes his mistake, he tries to transport out but his overtaxed powers conk out and he falls unconscious.

* MyGreatestFailure: Seth is completely devastated any time he's unable to help a gifted one or Immortal. He is extremely upset when he realizes he somehow missed Bastien's transformation from gifted one to Immortal, leaving Bastien to live isolated for nearly two hundred years, mistakenly believing he was a vampire. He is completely distraught when Yuri dies and Stanislov goes missing. He searches for Stan every night for two years, unable to accept that the man may actually be dead.

* FrightBesideThem: Using his shapeshifting abilities, [[spoiler: Gershom]] causes havoc by impersonating Seth and other Immortals and committing heinous acts of brutality and betrayal, leaving the recipient either dead or reeling with confusion. The ultimate example is when [[spoiler: Gershom]]-as-Seth attacks Aidan. The others don't come to his aid because Seth would only attack for a ''really'' good reason. But his anger is so out of character, one of the other guardians ventures to call Seth's cellphone, only to have the real Seth answer, leaving the guardians confused as to who this extremely powerful impostor is.

* FullyEmbracedFiend: Bastien tends toward this, due to thinking he was a vampire for 200 years and that the Immortal Guardians were the enemy.

* FightingAcrossTimeAndSpace: Gershom teleports repeatedly teleports at random across the globe to evade Zach, Seth, and Jared's attempts to capture him. Aidan and Richart try to help but Gershom is known to pick sunny places that are dangerous to the highly photosensitive, younger Immortals.

* ISeeDeadPeople: Marcus' power, one which requires him to be careful to avoid being haunted by ghosts desperate to communicate with the living world.

* HeelRealization: Bastien spends 200 years hunting Roland and the other Immortals only to realize that Roland is innocent of the crime for which Bastien vowed revenge, the Immortals are the good guys, and most of the vampires he's been protecting are actually killing people when Bastien is not around. By protecting them from the Immortals, he's actually getting a lot of innocent people killed.

* HumanAlien: [[spoiler: Ami]] is secretly from another planet.

* MistakenConfession: Lisette confesses to betraying Seth. She believes he is accusing her of betraying him by [[spoiler: having a relationship with Zach, who Seth currently despises]], but he is actually accusing her of [[spoiler: being TheMole who is raising a vampire army against the Immortals]]. Needless to say, when they finally come to an understanding they're both completely confused.

* MistakenForDisease: When Ami starts to suffer from fatigue, nausea, fever, and exhaustion, she believes she has been infected with the virus. It takes Seth, David, and Marcus asking ''a lot'' of questions for the group to finally realize she's actually ''pregnant.''

* SanitySlippage: After millennia of staunch isolationism, [[spoiler: Gershom]] goes from a peaceful and passive observer of humanity to literally trying to jump start the Apocalypse, not caring who dies in the collateral damage.

* ShapeshiftingExcludesClothing: When Nick tries to sneak by Kayla in cat form, this becomes a problem when he passes out and shifts back to his naked human form. The best Kayla can do is give him a towel, as she has no idea where he left his clothes.

* TimeTravel: Marcus' first love, Bethany, was sent back in time from the 21st century to the Middle Ages. Where she fell in love with Marcus' best friend, Sir Robert.

* BaitAndSwitchAccusation: Lisette thinks Seth is angry because he's discovered that she's been [[spoiler: secretly seeing Zach, who Seth has banned from having contact with the Guardians.]] In reality, Seth knows nothing of that. He's instead reacting to her secretive, suspicious behavior which makes her a prime candidate as the [[spoiler: telepath who has been working to turn vampires to attack the Guardians.]] This leads to a showdown where Lisette is sobbing her apologies for her betrayal and Seth is broken hearted over being betrayed and they're not even ''remotely'' talking about the same thing.

* AlienAutopsy: Done while [[spoiler: Ami]] was still alive and fully conscious. Don't worry, though, her BizarreAlienBiology allows her to heal completely. Also, happens to [[spoiler: Taleon]] when he comes to Earth intending to rescue [[spoiler: Ami.]]

* KissOfTheVampire: A vampire's bite releases a chemical similar to GHB that causes the victim to be unable to feel pain, and forget any memory of the incident later.
* MassTeleportation: When any of the Immortals who are capable of teleporting do so, anyone or anything that they are touching goes with them. This is actually helpful when they need to get multiple Immortals to a large scale fight quickly. It's not unusual for Seth to declare "Everyone grab a shoulder!"
* TheMasqueradeWillKillYourDatingLife: Not aging and being unable to bear sunlight limits the Immortals' ability to have human companionship. Even when they find someone that might be a good match, they have to worry about breaking the truth to them. More than one Immortal has nearly been killed or had loved ones killed because they trusted a significant other with the truth of who they are and what they can do. These things combine to mean that most Immortals have been alone for hundreds or even thousands of years despite wanting to be in loving committed relationships.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: Averted. Nearly every book in the series features an Immortal falling in love with a Gifted One who will eventually convert in order to spend eternity together. Exceptions include [[spoiler:Marcus and Ami (who can't be converted but has a centuries long lifspan)]], [[spoiler: Seth and Leah (who can't be converted via the virus but is magically converted by Seth's uber-powerful dad]], and [[spoiler:Cliff and Emma]]. Notably, [[spoiler:Cliff]] is a vampire while [[spoiler:Emma]] is a Gifted One. [[spoiler: Cliff is turned back to human by Seth's dad]] while Emma [[spoiler: chooses not to convert so that she won't outlive Cliff]].
