This resulted in Hayt not only resisting the trigger command, but reclaiming the full memories of the original Duncan Idaho, something that no ghola had been able to do before. On the other hand it was also intentional: The Tleilaxu theorized that bone-deep morals such as Duncan's loyalty were key in reclaiming gholas' memories, so even if Hayt failed - as he did - it still gave the Tleilaxu pricelessly valuable knowledge.]]

** Paul calls Mohiam to bargain with the Bene Gesserit, offering them his seed to continue their breeding program in exchange for Chani's life. Much gravitas is placed on this subplot, but it is swiftly phased our and never mentioned again.

* BrotherSisterIncest: Paul and Alia have incestuous overtones, certainly not helped by the Bene Gesserit's clear intention to find a way of bargaining for Paul and his sister to produce an heir. At one point, Paul walks in on Alia training with a dummy in the nude, and notes "a disquieting femaleness about her that he had never considered in his sister". For her part, Alia foresees via the spice the possibility of becoming pregnant, but only via a man she is unable to see; and as "oracles" present blind-spots to one another, she worries it may be impossible to avoid the fate. * UpToEleven: Alia Atreides engages in a sparring match with a mechanical swordsman, which gets faster, and creates more lights (which reflect off its prismatic body to distract its opponent) every time it is struck. It's noted that the greatest swordsmen in the universe can strike it seven times before it becomes too fast to safely continue. Alia manages to strike it eleven times, before Paul stops her by throwing a knife at the off switch, ''which is on the machine''.
