There is little rhyme or reason to the geography, other than that it reflects the personality of the Dragon King that rules over each region. Some of the oddities are due to magical intervention. The Barren Lands (ruled by Brown) used to be verdant forests and grasslands until a ritual gone awry turned them into a desert. ''Another'' ritual gone awry then turned the Barren Lands back into forests (though the name stuck).
