Cool Loser TRS cleanup, has been renamed to Unconvincingly Unpopular Character and is a YMMV audience reaction.

* FourthDateMarriage: It's briefly mentioned at the end of ''Midnight Whispers'' that, after Christie ended Fern's allowance, Fern eloped with a man she barely knew.

Added DiffLines:

* GratuitousRape: As per usual for a ghostwritten "V.C. Andrews" book. There may be a female character in this series who ''wasn't'' raped at some point, but it would take quite a bit of looking to find her.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Bookends}}: The first book in the series is titled "Dawn". The final one is the opposite, "Darkest Hour". What's more, it comes full circle as the fifth book serves as a prequel to the others, and as the saying goes, "It's always darkest before the dawn".

Ill Girl has been cut per TRS decision. Examples are moved to Delicate And Sickly when appropriate.

* IllGirl: A cystic fibrosis afflicted Eugenia in ''Darkest Hour''.
** Sally Jean Longchamp is older than most examples, but otherwise fits.
** Laura Sue posits herself as one, although much of her "illness" is either faked or psychosomatic.
** Jefferson becomes an Ill Boy towards the end of ''Midnight Whispers'' after contracting tetanus.
** In addition to SanitySlippage, Georgia in ''Darkest Hour'' gets stomach cancer.

Cinderella Circumstances has become a disambig

* CinderellaCircumstances: Dawn's punishment for her illegitimate pregnancy is being pulled out of school and sent to Emily, who works her like a slave in the run-up to the birth, believing that physical labor is good for the baby. In ''Darkest Hour'', Lillian is also treated as a slave to force her to atone for her perceived "sin" with Niles (even though Jed and Emily know full well by this stage that nothing happened).

* ButtMonkey: Jefferson Longchamp, who get picked on by his cousins [[spoiler:before and after being orphaned]] and is more or less treated like an inferior child.

Added DiffLines:

* InformedAttribute: Christie claims that Jefferson has a bad temper like his father but we never really see him acting out in a way that isn't normal for a young boy.

Added DiffLines:

* OutOfFocus: Jefferson, Dawn and Jimmy's son and Christie's younger brother, seems to be an afterthought for much of ''Midnight Whispers'' save for being bullied by Richard and getting sick at The Meadows.

* ProtagonistCenteredMorality: Thanks to the first person narration, Dawn's major flaws such as naively trusting her rapist brother and not thinking things through are glossed over up until [[spoiler:she winds up dead because she decided to run ''into a fire'' after her husband instead of thinking about her children.]]

No longer a trope.

* YourCheatingHeart: Initially, Dawn is told that her real father was a touring lounge singer that had a fling with Laura Sue. [[spoiler:That's a lie, and Laura Sue was raped by her father-in-law.]]
** However, Clara Sue's real father is Bronson Alcott, who really did have an affair with Laura Sue.
** Lillian caught her father with another woman during a party.

Added DiffLines:

** BettyAndVeronicaSwitch: The first half of ''Dawn'' actually depicted Philip as the Betty (blond, charming, not related to Dawn) and Jimmy as the Veronica (dark-haired, gets into trouble at school, getting involved with Dawn would be incest). It was the reveal of Dawn's Cutler heritage that shifted things so that Jimmy became the non-incestuous choice and could prove himself to be a good match for Dawn whereas Philip's incestuous obsession with Dawn made him the far more dangerous option.
