** In 1992, several children suffering from cancer were granted a wish from the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Their wish? To finally rescue Gilligan from the island. Bob Denver himself donned the Gilligan costume and waited on a deserted island off the West Virginia coast to be rescued by the kids. After boarding the cruise ship carrying the children (the S.S. Minnow, of course,) he spent the rest of the day playing games with them.
** Look at the Meta entry on the TearJerker page. It lists the passing (as of 2020) of six of the cast. When Dawn Wells died in 2020, social media exploded in grief, particularly because she died of complications from COVID-19, during the peak of the pandemic. That's how beloved the Castaways are to entire generations of fans.

The Howells' response? To throw the guests out without any hesitation. * "X Marks the Spot": The other Castaways are sitting at the table, clearly grief-stricken after Gilligan has been swept away by the missile. Mrs. Howell suggests renaming one of their estates after Gilligan; Mr. Howell contemplates setting up a fund, and the Skipper says he's going to christen his next ship after his departed first mate. When Gilligan arrives, soaking wet but very much alive, it only takes a second of realization for the others to mob him. The Professor, who was instructing him on the WireDilemma, is the first to reach him.

* In the first season episode, "Angel On The Island", a play starring Ginger (as Cleopatra) is to be performed to help lift her spirits. Mrs. Howell becomes jealous and has Mr. Howell (the director) replace Ginger with herself. After Ginger actually cries, and Gilligan incompetently tries to cheer her, Gilligan then (at a point when the castaways still don't know the Howells very well) has a private meeting with Mrs. Howell where he somewhat formally beseeches her to let Ginger have the part. (She does.) It's moments like that that make it easier to see why the other six DON'T kill Gilligan.

* In one episode, Gilligan believes that he's won the lottery and is now a millionaire, so the Howells offer to let him join their exclusive island club (which has a membership fee of $5,000). Gilligan gets lonely while there, so he writes all of the other castaways I.O.U.s to let them enter (a Heartwarming moment in and of itself). Mr. Howell isn't fond of his "private" club being invaded, and when Gilligan loses the lottery ticket that guarantees his riches, the "old" millionaire kicks everyone out. One DreamSequence later prompts him to realize how selfish he's been, so he quickly wakes up Gilligan and tells him that he's found the missing ticket, so he should go tell everyone that they can rejoin the club. While Gilligan rushes off to share the good news, Mrs. Howell realizes that Thurston made up a fake ticket as an excuse to have everyone come back. Even after the group hears on the radio that someone else claimed the winnings (it turns out Gilligan's original ticket was a year old), he still lets everyone stay. Awww.

** Originally, the opening theme's lyrics only named five of the seven cast members (with the Professor and Mary-Ann being billed as "and the rest"). The five named cast members thought this was unfair to the two and wanted it changed to include them; when the producers initially refused, Bob Denver (Gilligan's actor) used an aspect of his contract to ''force'' them into updating the lyrics to name all seven cast members for seasons 2 and 3.
