Instead of panicking or being apathetic, Larry actually goes to find his ex-wife's tampons, and gives her time in his bathroom for privacy. When she reveals that she has no idea how to use a tampon, Larry (from the other side of the door) reads the instructions to her and doesn't get frustrated when she takes a while to understand. Uncomfortable, yes. Inappropriate, probably. But overall, it's a rare act of pure empathy on Larry's part, who instantly realises the girl is in shock when her period starts, and actually takes a parental role.
