* So we learn near the end of the book that Jason was trying to keep them from reaching the spring so that he could send humanity back to the Stone Age by setting monsters loose upon the world. And he's clearly regretful about having his sister be indirectly responsible for this, but I can't figure out why he needed Alia's Warbringer powers in the first place. He already had everything he needed to create a war on his own -- he had the super-soldiers, he had the genetically-engineered monsters, he had the [=EMP=]s to keep nukes out of the picture... If he doesn't want Alia to be involved, why didn't he just let her bathe in the spring and then enact his plan afterward? This would only make sense if the monsters he's created are dependent on the Warbringer's presence in order to act -- and that's never suggested to be the case.

* So we learn near the end of the book that Jason was trying to keep them from reaching the spring so that he could redefine war according to his own terms. But given the preparations we learn he’s made later, I don’t understand why he needed Alia’s Warbringer powers to make it happen, seeing as it’s mentioned earlier that conflicts could still happen even without her as a catalyst. We know he was going to set genetically engineered monsters upon the world and use EMPs to keep the world powers from using nuclear weapons and the like to stop them, forcing everyone to rally behind the line of super-soldiers he’d created and achieving the glorious death he felt was owed to him. All of these were things that Jason was responsible for and could control, so why did he need the Warbringer around when he could guarantee that it would all happen anyway?
