One day Lord Uroko suddenly announces that there's going to be an apocalypse that'll kill all the land people, and the sea people will hibernate till it's over. Why is this happening now? The only difference between this year and last year is the Ofunehiki got cancelled this year, but since the kids manage to put it on anyway, shouldn't that fix everything? But Uroko specifically says it won't help. So...what, was the Sea God running low on prayers all these years and he's finally hit a tipping point? If so, did Uroko never try to warn anybody that an ''apocalypse'' would occur if they didn't change their ways? (I know he's a jerk, but the show doesn't present him as a ''genocidal'' jerk.) Perhaps Uroko actually didn't see this coming in the first place? But then, why does he never appear surprised about it?

Akari's dad goes into hibernation with the expectation that his daughter (and grandchildren!) will be ''dead'' by the time he wakes up. Isn't that a big deal? And on the land, does nobody care that all land-based civilization will eventually freeze to death? Do they just not believe Lord Uroko, or what? The best they've got is one college kid and his teacher who are researching everything at a snail's pace. Wouldn't five years of weirdly cold weather attract more attention/concern than that?

The whole idea of hibernation is that you'll wake up after the apocalypse is finished. Five years later Hikari wakes up, and Kaname follows soon after. So...was that it? Was it less of an "apocalypse" and more of "five years of unseasonably cold weather"? I guess maybe they both woke up early because they didn't hibernate correctly?

There's concern that not everyone will wake up at the same time. Can't they just ask Uroko what the procedure is? Maybe he could arrange to wake them up himself, all at the same time? Or if he can't do that, maybe he could just say so. The weird thing is that nobody ever thinks about ''asking'' him. On that note, eventually Uroko reveals that the Sea God is semi-dead and his emotions are scattered throughout the sea. This information ends up being important, so...why didn't he reveal it earlier? For that matter, why didn't he talk to Chisaki during the Time Skip to inform her that her friends were safely hibernating?
