** The exact same reasons plenty of RealLife cruddy parents don't just give up their neglected kids for adoption: societal pressures to keep families together, disagreement between the parents of what to do, simple parental obligation towards their kid despite not loving them, lack of assurance that the kid won't just be neglected or abused somewhere else, guilt of abandoning their child even if it's justified. Miss Fortune's parents aren't good, but that doesn't mean that any of these things wouldn't get in the way of them giving her up to the system. We don't get much insight into why Miss Fortune's parents keep her, so it's possibly one of these reasons.

** Given that he can impact the real world, he may leave notes for them to pick up. Alternately, he may simply be surprised that Misfortune can hear him speaking ''to the player''. That's the only time when he says anything that she shouldn't hear, after all.

Even if Miss Fortune's parents aren't good, that doesn't mean that any of these things wouldn't get in the way of them giving her up to the system. It's never stated that Miss Fortune's parents' ''hate'' her, rather that they are negligent, so putting her up for adoption probably doesn't feel worth it.

* What does Mr Voice do with the children who ''can't'' hear him? They make it clear that Misfortune is the only one who can hear him, and he's surprised by this. But the games he plays wouldn't work with children who can't hear him.

** Maybe he just wanted to see how clever his new forever playmate was?

** I know its complex but just because something complex doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be done.

* If Mrs. Hernandez did not want her daughter why didn't she give her to a adoption agency?

* So, who exactly is the player? Mr Voice can talk to the player and even mentions the screen between them - but does the player have some place in the Misfortune's story from the in-universe POV?

** Entering the zoo being an issue stands out as unusual in general. It's the first and only time that Morgo doesn't just hand Misfortune the item she needs to progress. Contrast this with the fact that when she later needs a ticket for Phantasmagoria (and wants a balloon), he goes right back to his previous habit of spawning things in.

** The janitor at least is clearly associated with Morgo, being that it has a crow for a head and all, so it would make sense that it sees and reacts to Misfortune. The clerk may potentially be some clever misleading on Morgo's part; the clerk never actually ''reacts'' to Misfortune or spares her a glance. If you throw the stone, he goes to check out the damage, and if you tell him a lie, he goes outside and does... nothing, even when he should have clearly seen the lie for what it was--it's possible that he went out for a break and just happened to do it when Misfortune told her lie. Alternatively, Morgo ''can'' affect the real world even if only in small actions like busting up the lamp. It's possible he did something to get the clerk's attention.
