* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane is very much in effect here. It's entirely possible that the Reverend did die in that fire, and has come back as some form of supernatural entity. This is evidenced by the fact that his eyes changed from blue to black afterwards, his inhuman pain tolerance, ability to StealthHiBye at a moment's notice, and his ability to find Liz no matter where she goes. Then again, he could also have just gotten really lucky and crazy.

Why did Pendergast not inform the Carabinieri that he and D'Agosta were planning to visit Castel Fosco and that they believed Count Fosco was behind the murders? Why did Pendergast rely only on the secret society blackmail as insurance for him and D'Agosta to be able to escape?

Assuming that the fire successfully was enough to destroy any features, how did it not spread and burn the preacher? Surviving a throat cut is one thing, but being in a wooden room with fire blazing doesn't warrant a burnless feature.
