* Leon defeating Alain might seem like a waste since Ash never got a rematch with him. But while Ash didn't defeat Alain himself, he ''did'' defeat two trainers that Alain fell short against, Steven and Leon. And a closer look at Ash's fight with Leon shows several parallels to that Kalos League clash, letting Ash symbolically avenge his defeat.
** Alain's Tyranitar used Sandstorm to cover the field once the match began. Leon's Mr. Rime used Psychic Terrain and Freeze-Dry to give itself an advantage.
** Ash got the first win in both instances, beating Tyranitar and Inteleon
** One of Ash's Pokemon got a win to avenge the loss of its teammate (Hawlucha and Dracovish for Noivern and SirFetched respectively.)
** Ash's fighting type Pokemon was taken out after being paralyzed (Hawlucha and Lucario.)
** One of the opposing Pokemon was defeating by being body slammed into the ground (Weevile and Dragapult)
** One of the opposing non-Ace Pokemon got two wins (Bisharp and Rillaboom).
** Ash was knocked down to his last Pokemon first (Greninja and Pikachu.)
** A weakened Pikachu faced down a Charizard.
** The final clash ended with the two Pokemon staring each other down before one fell.

* Like Pal Park in Sinnoh, the Friend Safari doesn't exist here because Officer Jennys in Kalos use Manetric because Growlithe are apparently non-native to Kalos even though in the games, you can get Growlithe from the Fire-type Friend Safari.

This was probably put under the wrong bullet, but Ash vs Tobias has nothing to do with Ash vs Brandon.

** Pikachu learns Volt Tackle in late Battle Frontier, and it's implied that it's a very prestigious and high-level attack for him (it was an Egg Move in the games at the time, but the anime has always worked on different rules). Come ''Diamond and Pearl'', it becomes a very iconic part of his moveset, to the point where even Paul takes an interest in Pikachu just for knowing it.

*** Plus, Ash's battle with Tobias had Sceptile beating a fully healed Darkrai (thanks to Dark Void and Dream Eater) with nothing more than two Leaf Blades as well.

** Another reason Alola succeeds in completing Ash's evolution to not only becoming itss first-ever champion but eventually World Champion as well can be traced back to, among other things, he and Pikachu having actual mentors to help them buff out those rough edges, Kukui for Ash and Tapu Koko for Pikachu. While Ash has been given lessons before, this is the first time the mentor figures were long term presences in their lives, and Pikachu has rarely, if ever, had a mentor in the same way Ash has had.

* Ash's Rowlet appearing to be knocked out during his battle with Hau's Decidueye only to be revealed to be sleeping comes across as an AssPull at first but it's more likely a massive TakeThat at Ash's Squirtle being declared unable to battle after he was hit by Happy's Sleep Powder in the Indigo League. This shows that a Pokémon can fall asleep and keep battling when it wakes up.

** The Alola Region resembles an expanded version of the Orange Islands. While there, Ash acquires his first significant triumph as a trainer by completing an unconventional gym challenge that teaches him valuable lessons about being a trainer, aside from the regular battle-based gym challenges. This unorthodox approach to gym challenges likely contributes to Ash's unbridled thinking in his battles, which would later prove advantageous. Similarly, Alola would help Ash develop into a trainer capable of dominating the Pokemon Battling World by teaching him unique lessons in Pokemon Training and life through its culture, people, and, of course, Pokemon.
** During their toughest battles, Ash and Pikachu often find themselves in a state of white space, dubbed "The Power of Alola" by some online communities. By embracing Alola as their second home, they establish a deep connection that helps them overcome adversity and secure victory even when the odds are against them. In their match against Leon, it's possible that Ash and Pikachu tapped into a more potent version of this power, thanks to the presence of all their Pokemon friends, which could be considered the Pokemon World's answer to "The Force." We've seen this state of mind in action during Ash and Pikachu's Manalo Conference Exhibition Match against Kukui and Tapu Koko, as well as in the Masters 8 Finals against Leon and Charizard.
** During their matches, Ash and Pikachu utilized a powerful Rainbow Electric attack, known as the 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt, to take on Kukui. In their match against Leon, they employed an improvised Rainbow Volt Tackle. Throughout their journey, rainbows and Ho-oh have played a pivotal role, and it's possible that the Pikashunium Z acted as a training wheel for them to harness that connection and turn it into raw power, eventually allowing them to execute these moves without relying on the Pikashunium Z.

* Ash's lackluster performance in the Unova campaign is likely more than just a result of a ResetButton for the series. Along with it being implied that Ash took a break in between the Sinnoh and Unova journeys, this is also the first time Ash wasn't traveling with Brock since Brock left to learn how to become a Pokemon Doctor. Ash was just rusty and spends much of his time in Unova learning how to get his groove back without Brock's subtle guidance.

Already been decided this doesn't count as a surprisingly realistic outcome. Also, the evolution thing is too fantastical.

* Of why Clemont's invention always explode when he's supposed to be a genius inventor. Well, this is SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome played for lighthearted hilarity. Given that Clemont probably came up with the inventions with only 30 second notice, and given that most of his invention do work - if briefly - before exploding, his problem is the lack of testing the invention and making sure the invention is fail-safe.

** Add to that Tsareena was almost exclusively played against [[{{HarmlessVillain}} harmless villains]] like Team Rocket's Meowth, of course [[StrawLoser by comparison of her opposition]] she would look like an InvincibleHero. When the league came and Mallow was pit against the relatively more trained Primarina, [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome the lack of experience quickly came into play]] and Tsareena was soon eliminated. This is a show that has repeatedly pointed out that evolution can help with power but doesn't automatically mean more experience.
