** Makoto's anime counterpart, as well as some of his possible visual novel personalities could also count. In the anime, he actually becomes TheAtoner towards the end and tries to start over with Kotonoha, but ultimately gets himself killed by virtue of being a massive dick to Sekai. Similarly, even though his actions in the VN are generally what result in him getting screwed over in the bad endings, he's often portrayed sympathetically even then.
