This is surface level. It's a Downer Ending that focuses on his horrified expression.

!!FridgeSadness
* Clay will probably have a tough time having watched his girlfriend and potential fiancee literally get dragged to hell right in front of him. Probably spending the rest of his life saddened, confused, and frightened from what he saw.
** Saddened, confused and frightened? He'll probably end up in a mental institution.

* The whole concept of the movie is one big Fridge Horror. The idea that someone can ''literally'' curse you to Hell for all eternity for even ''the slightest of grievances'' is pretty horrifying. Doesn't matter if you're an innocent woman or even a child. Once you've been cursed, you'll be dragged to a FireAndBrimstoneHell for an eternity of torture. The only way out is to pass the curse to someone else, meaning you'll be ''deliberately'' damning someone to Hell. Either way, it makes for a truly messed-up situation.

* Christine's house features the famous motivational posters with a kitten hanging off a branch and the caption "Hang in there, baby!" This is a deliciously ironic bit of foreshadowing, given that her eventual fate is being pulled down into a literal hell pit.

* Let's assume that Ganush's curse is a recipe that is several centuries old and that the Roma have used it for vengeance that long. [[TheExtremistWasRight That puts a disturbing new perspective on the way that the Roman Catholic Church and medieval/Renaissance governments treated the Roma.]]
** Yes, if a story that's based in propaganda and stereotypes used to enact horrific violence to, or at best discriminate against, a marginalised group was actually true, the horrific violence and discrimination would've actually made some sense. Congratulations on figuring out the brain teaser of "why do people tell completely false stories of a marginalised group consorting with the Devil?". This is like taking literally any harmful stereotype about a minority or an oppressed group, finding a story that either indulges in, or is influenced by that stereotype where a member of that group is a villain, and then framing real-life harm against that group as FridgeHorror. Not to put too fine a point on it, but that's like adding a FridgeHorror page to TheMerchantOfVenice and going "wow, that would really put a new perspective on the expulsion of Jews from Medieval states" or a story that features the AllGaysArePedophiles trope and musing "that would sure put a new level on the police raid on the Stonewall Inn!". The only FridgeHorror here is how harmful such tropes actually are, not "wow, imagine those groups really WERE as evil as portrayed in some fiction".

Remember to avoid This Troper

* When I was first watching the film, I happened to notice a background detail in Christine's house: One of those oft-parodied motivational posters with a kitten hanging off a branch and the caption "Hang in there, baby!". I liked it as a background detail because it fit the character (she does have a kitten, and somehow it just seems appropriate that she'd have some GlurgeAddict tendencies). Then I watched the movie again and realized it's a deliciously ironic bit of foreshadowing, given that her eventual fate is being pulled down into a literal hell pit. - Tropers/MikeK

* At the beginning of the movie, we see Christine doing voice modulation exercises on her way to work. No big deal; a nice little snippet to show the nature of her character. But then the last sentences she repeats caught my attention: "Good sounds abound when the mouth is round". [[spoiler:Round like a button... or a coin.]] - Levikeinz
