However, this can be chalked up to the fact that all the best German soldiers have been sent to the Eastern Front, leaving the Italian front with less experienced recruits. The fact that the new Grenadier unit has 5 men like the Volksgrenadier of ''1'' and ''2'' further supports this.

* The Russian response to Company of Heroes 2 makes a strong amount of sense when you consider the origin of the Western narrative of the Eastern front - German officers asked by the eventual NATO forces to write their memoirs and try to figure out how to fight the Soviets, only for the officers to use it to whitewash themselves. The Soviet side of the line didn't permit such things (and wasn't so lax towards the German Officers they did re-employ), and likely remained totally unaware of the Western version of the history. While 2's Eastern Front story would be par for the course for a Western-written story of the Eastern front, this was likely the first (and probably only) time Russian gamers got a mouthful of that narrative. This, combined with the Russian nationalism (which has only worsened since CoH2's release) caused a player backlash.
