** Speaking of the Colonials' evolution, before the development of the Modular People, there was a long period when various strains of derived Colonial-descendants actively competed with each other, some types becoming more plant-like and others becoming mobile. Some even evolved natural weapons and defenses, which ''strongly'' implies that they were killing or even preying upon each other. Imagine what life was like for ''those'' pre-Modulars, having to kill and consume others you know to be fellow sentients, if you're a predator, or to just wait to be attacked and eaten alive, if you're a rooted semi-plant sort.

The Gravitals' end goal is the [[KillEmAll utter annihilation of the Asteromorphs and the continued enslavement of the Subjects,]] whereas the Asteromorphs' mostly just want to stop the conflict, which gives most of the surviving species (The Asteromorphs, the Subjects, and the more liberal Gravitals) higher incentive to defect or betray the Gravitals.
