* ManOnFire: The girl who wishes to be hot gets her wish when an AerosolFlamethrower sets her head on fire.

* TheAlcoholic: Detective Ringwald. He spends the entire film drunk, climbs out his car clutching a bottle of booze, and is shown eating ChocolateFrostedSugarBombs and whiskey for breakfast.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Samantha, the timid and sweet-natured daughter of the headmaster, has a crush on the school's bad boy Daniel. His cruel mocking of her causes her to make the wish to be popular, which triggers off the chain of deadly wishes which sweeps through the school.

* BeautyIsBad: Molly, Victoria, and Carol are the school beauties who are also vain, haughty, [[AlphaBitch alpha bitches]]. They are all [[LaserGuidedKarma seemingly punished for this by the wishes, and Victoria and Carol's vanity lead to them losing their beauty in different wishes]]. Their envious classmates who use their wishes to be more beautiful than them are also all directly or indirectly punished.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: The entire point of the film. Every wish made comes true, but in the worst way possible. Only Samantha's original wish is free of ill effects.

* CatapultNightmare: Samantha awakes from the DreamWithinADream that makes her realise she is responsible for unleashing the evil djinn upon the school by sitting bolt upright in bed.

* ChainLetter: A chain text circulates through the school, promising to grant the recipient a wish if they forward the text on to two friends. The wishes are granted. [[JerkassGenie In the worst way possible.]]

* DefectiveDetective: Detective Ringwald is [[TheAlcoholic an alcoholic]] who lives in a rats nest of an apartment and eats ChocolateFrostedSugarBombs and whiskey for breakfast. He staggers through the film in a drunken haze, speaking in French half the time, and being [[TheUnintelligible incomprehensible in either language]].

* EyeScream: Linda loses both eyes when she slips on the wet floor and lands face first on a pair of open scissors in a tin.

* TheFaceless: Guggenhiem, the student the Janitor is telling the story to. As all of his scenes are shot [[POVCam from his point of view]], the audience occasional glimpses his hand or his leg, but that's it.

* FatSlob: The fat kid who wishes to be thin is wearing a very scruffy uniform, exhibits JabbaTableManners, exudes a general air of slovenliness and smells. He looks at a flier for a weight loss program, but attempts to take a magical shortcut instead.
* {{Fingore}}: The girl who wishes she could lose a stone in weight has her her right hand and arm ground off in a garbage disposal.

* GirlOnGirlIsHot: This is mentioned when the janitor brings up Molly and Kirsty, the same-sex couple in the school, to the unseen student. However, [[{{Foreshadowing}} he warns things end badly with them]].

* GreenEyedMonster: Jane is jealous of the much better-looking Victoria for stealing her BestFriend, and wishes she was prettier to get over on Victoria. She gets her wish when acid [[PunishedWithUgly disfigures Victoria in a lab accident and makes her much uglier than Jane.]]

* HandInTheHole: The girl who wishes she could lose a stone in weight has her her right hand and arm ground off in a garbage disposal.
* HeadTurningBeauty: Molly and Carol cause everyone to stop what they are doing and stare at their beauty in awe whenever they walk by. Ironically reverted with Victoria [[spoiler:whose head-turning beauty is destroyed accidentally by acid, and afterwards suffers people turning their heads at her to gawk out of disgust or sneer.]]

* JabbaTableManners: The fat kid is shown eating three burgers in the canteen, stuffing them into his mouth and picking his nose between bites.

* LipstickLesbian: Molly is really bisexual, it's revealed (due to having cheated on her girlfriend with a boy), though otherwise she fits the trope very well, with long hair and feminine clothing. Usually it's a revealing school uniform ([[CatholicSchoolGirlsRule i.e. tight blouse and very short skirt]]) or her basketball uniform, which is also skimpy. These only highlight her existing good looks.

* NakedPeopleAreFunny: Michael wishes for XRayVision so he can see the girls basketball team naked. Although he gets his wish, he then finds he cannot turn the power off, so he sees not only the nubile basketballers nude, but also his middle-aged male teacher, his headmaster, and his overweight father naked. Hellish for Michael, but [[HilarityEnsues hilarious for the audience]].

* PowerPerversionPotential: Michael wishes that he had XRayVision, which he then uses to spy on the girls basketball team, seeing them naked. He then discovers that he cannot turn it off, and is forced to see his teacher, his headmaster, and his father naked.

* BuxomIsBetter: Alice's boyfriend thinks so. He uses his wish to cause her [[BreastExpansion breasts to grow bigger]].

* {{Gainaxing}}: Michael ogles the female basketball players while they practice, with their breasts bouncing. Then after he makes his wish he sees them bouncing nude as well.

* MakeOutKids: SchoolgirlLesbians Molly and Kirsty. Their make-out session in the corridor between classes causes another girl to wish she "looked good enough to eat". [[IAmAHumanitarian Unfortunately for her]] [[JerkassGenie her wish comes true]].

* SchoolgirlLesbians: Kirsty and Molly are in a same-sex relationship. Evidence indicates that quite a few other girls in the school have a crush on Molly.

* ShowerOfLove: SchoolgirlLesbians Kirsty and Molly start to get it on in the shower. However, Kirsty's wish kicks in, resulting in both of their deaths.

* HeadTurningBeauty: Molly and Carol cause everyone to stop what they are doing and stare at their beauty in awe whenever they walk by.

* GirlOnGirlIsHot: This is mentioned when the janitor brings up Molly and Kirsty, the same-sex couple in the school, to the unseen student. However, he warns things end badly with them.

* PunishedWithUgly: The gorgeous Victoria becomes disfigured due to her vanity and cruel behavior toward Jane. [[spoiler:Victoria humiliates Jane when she pushes her aside without a second look because she does not find her attractive enough to even acknowledge, pointedly praises Samantha's looks, and walks away with Samantha without looking back. In the lab she sneers at the teacher's warning to be careful with the acid and doesn't want to wear goggles to mess up her makeup. She then laughs when Kirsty reads Jane's wish that she was prettier than Victoria and Kirsty calls her ugly. This leads to an upset Jane pushing Kirsty, who then crashes into Daniel, who then falls forward and accidentally releases the acid in his beaker onto Victoria, which is able to completely spread across her face because she was not wearing goggles. The acid quickly ravages Victoria's face and destroys most of her features and all of her beauty. Jane's wish is fulfilled and she is much prettier than the now horrifyingly ugly Victoria.]]
