* HateSink: In this movie, you have two struggling humans, one stranded heroic faction of TransformingMecha with vehicles as their alt modes, and one Earthbound heroic faction of giant alien transforming robots with jungle animals as their alt modes. The Maximals are wise and caring towards all other living things, whereas the human Noah is a [[ItsAllAboutMe self-centered]] human who's joining the mission because he's OnlyInItForTheMoney, and the Autobot leader Optimus Prime whose only motivation for getting the Transwarp Key is to get back home to Cybertron and [[FantasticRacism doesn't care about humans all that much]], (at least up until their CharacterDevelopment), and Mirage, one of the Autobots, is frivolously disrespectful and casual at times. But '''then''', ''you'' have Scourge, the movie's BigBad, who is the leader of the Terrorcons and the most loyal underling of a [[PlanetEater planet-eating]] GodOfEvil, who is an arrogant EgomaniacHunter who sees other individuals as inferior to his own, insults them regardless of their rank, takes the lives of innocent victims without showing any amount of remorse whatsoever, and is willing to summon his master to Earth just so that he can allow him to destroy it and extinguish all life on it, doing it just to show his status symbol as a vile bot who is a leader of a villainous faction and to please his master. Because of this, he appears in the movie to make the viewers side with the heroes more.

Set in 1994, the film follows a pair of down-on-their-luck New Yorkers Noah Diaz and Elena Wallace as they find themselves taking part in a race to find a Cybertronian artifact known as the Transwarp Key, that could finally allow Optimus Prime and his group of few Autobots to return to the war effort on Cybertron. However, while the group must contend with the threat of the fearsome Terrorcons led by the warlord Scourge, they have the chance to make powerful allies with another group of Cybertronians hidden on Earth - [[WesternAnimation/BeastWars the Maximals]].

** Noah Diaz goes from being a self-centered human who is only seeking a way to provide for his family to being a more altruistic individual who is willing to risk his life to help out his friends, and one who becomes more self-assured of protecting Earth for all of the people that he loves. It helps that his friendship with Mirage was his first true friendship with an Autobot, laying out the foundation for his future friendships with Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots.
** Optimus Prime goes from being an abrasive bot who has a massive distrust towards humans and wants off of Earth back to Cybertron to being a more compassionate bot who eventually sets his sights to protect Earth and accepting humans as his top priorities, even calling them his friends, alongside the Maximals. One of his biggest steps was when he realizes that he was partly responsible for Airazor's demise and for Scourge grabbing the other half of the Transwarp Key because of his harsh attitude, and for what he did to Noah earlier in the film [[spoiler: (blaming him for what happened to Bumblebee)]] was wrong, so he resolves to apologize to him and join forces with him, Elena, and the Maximals. His heartwarming moment of him smiling at Noah after the conflict was resolved serves as his arc's culmination.
** Elena Wallace goes from being an ordinary human who's trying to gain recognition for her discoveries of ancient places and artifacts to actually becoming a famous person when her discovery of the Maximal temple gets featured on an episode of 60 Minutes at the end of the film. Also, as opposed to spouting out her discovery throughout the film like a spoiled person, she earns her recognition as a result of her said discovery at of the temple.

** Noah befriending Mirage and being his friend throughout the entire film has positive consequences later on. ** Prime agreeing to work together with Noah and Elena is what ultimately gives him the strength to [[spoiler: cripple Scourge severely. Noah and the Mirage exosuit even come in to help assist Prime in weakening the Terrorcon.]]
** [[spoiler: After Prime destroys both the key an the tower, the collapsing portal threatens to suck him in as he tries to outrun it. Noah, however, ultimately rushes in and grabs his hand to keep him from being swallowed up by the portal. The Maximal leader Optimus Primal then comes in to rescue both individuals, and the three and a half heroes all rush back to their comrades, allowing them to reunite with each other.]]
