* MoralityKitchenSink: There is no doubt that the main villain of the movie and his master are both [[CompleteMonster complete monsters]] and only seek to inflict massive suffering and to exterminate all life on other planets, but some of the heroes (Optimus Prime and Noah mostly) act like total jerks with them fighting with each other, with Mirage also acting flippant at times, but the human Elena (mostly) and the Maximals are wise and caring, with the Maximals having trusted humans for caring for them since their arrival on Earth, and having compassion for all life on said planet.

* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler: All three of the Terrocons, including their leader Scourge, bite the dust permanently, the Autobots and Maximals had managed to stop Unicron from destroying Earth but the Autobots have lost a chance to return home with the Transwarp Key destroyed, and while Bumblebee and Mirage have been revived, Airazor is still dead. Also, Unicron is still alive and remains a dangerous threat to the universe. However, Elena gets national acclaim for her discovery of the Maximal temple in Peru, the Maximals have made some new friends with the Autobots and the humans Noah and Elena, Optimus Prime is back to his compassionate and caring self, with him fully accepting both humans and Earth as his top priorities, Noah is offered a position in GI Joe, who offers to pay for his brother's medical treatments, in gratitude for helping to save the world, and make clear that they want to work with the Autobots to help protect their world, not seeing them as a threat.]]

* DarkerAndEdgier: Although not to the extent of the sequels from the original Michael Bay-directed continuity of the film series, such as ''Film/TransformersRevengeOfTheFallen'', ''Film/TransformersDarkOfTheMoon'', and ''Film/TransformersAgeOfExtinction'', it is this compared to the preceding film in the rebooted continuity. It continues the predecessor's film of having a character-driven story with a handful of action sequences spread throughout, on one hand. But the stakes are much higher, with a [[HateSink truly sickening villain]] serving as the BigBad of the film, with the GreaterScopeVillain of the film, who's essentially the ''Transformers'' franchise-wide version of {{Satan}} at the helm, some very dark scenes such as [[spoiler: Airazor getting [[BrainwashedAndCrazy corrupted and attacking the heroes]] and [[Unicron torturing Scourge because he only got one half of the Transwarp Key and not the other]], isn't afraid to show humans and innocent Cybertonians alike being put in danger, such as [[spoiler: the scene where Scourge downs Apelinq instantly with little effort]], three of the characters [[spoiler: bite the dust - two temporarily (for Bumblebee, it's a case of BackFromTheDead as he isn't revived up until the midst of the climax, and for Mirage, it's a DisneyDeath for him as he is offed during the climax and resurrected in TheStinger), and one permanently (Airazor)]], and the movie ends on a [[BittersweetEnding bittersweet note]] with [[spoiler: the heroes having saved the world, but with the Autobots losing their way of getting back home due to the Transwarp Key's destruction and with Unicron still alive.]]

** Optimus Prime goes from being an abrasive bot who has a massive distrust towards humans and wants off of Earth back to Cybertron to being a more compassionate bot who eventually sets his sights to protect Earth and accepting humans as his top priorities, even calling them his friends, alongside the Maximals. One of his biggest steps was when he realizes that he was partly responsible for [[spoiler: Airazor's demise and for Scourge grabbing the other half of the Transwarp Key because of his harsh attitude]], and for what he did to Noah earlier in the film [[spoiler: (blaming him for what happened to Bumblebee)]] was wrong, so he resolves to apologize to him and join forces with him, Elena, and the Maximals. His heartwarming moment of him smiling at Noah after the conflict was resolved serves as his arc's culmination.

** Noah befriending Mirage and being his friend throughout the entire film has positive consequences later on. [[spoiler:When Mirage attacks Scourge on his own to protect his friend Noah from the wretched bot, he does take the bullet and appears to have died [[NotQuiteDead(at first)]], he instead pulls through and uses the last of his strength to become a powered armor for Noah, which he uses to keep him alive for the remainder of the final battle.]]

* CelebrityParadox: Mirage comments to Noah that "[[Creator/MarkWahlberg Marky Mark]]" is moving away from rapping to acting. Wahlberg played Cade Yaeger, the protagonist of two of the ''Transformers'' films that were set after this one before ''Bumblebee''.

However, after the pep talk, Mirage is revealed to have survived the barrage, giving Noah a bit of catharsis, and uses the last of his strength to become a powered exosuit for Noah, which he uses to keep the Autobot alive for the remainder of the final showdown. At the very end of the film, Noah fixes him back up and he returns to life upon transforming, with him transforming either into a completely different vehicle or, similar to Bumblebee after he was revived, a car that is identical to his original self in due time.]]

* Laser-Guided Karma: [[spoiler: During their first battle with each other, Scourge defeats Optimus Prime and slays Bumblebee, taking his insignia as his trophy in the process. During their third and final battle with each other, Scourge is defeated and killed by Optimus Prime, who tears off his head with the spine attached to it, and takes back his insignia and places it back on a revived Bee's head.]]

* The Power of Friendship: Thrice, and all happen during the movie's climax:

Set in 1994, the film follows a pair of down-on-their-luck New Yorkers Noah Diaz and Elena Wallace as they find themselves taking part in a race to find a Cybertronian artifact known as the Transwarp Key, that could finally allow Optimus Prime and his group of few Autobots to return to the war effort on Cybertron. However, while the group must contend with the threat of the fearsome Terrorcons led by the warlord Scourge, they have the chance to make powerful allies with another group of Cybertronians hidden on Earth - [[WesternAnimation/BeastWars the Maximals]].
