A LiveActionAdaptation of the Belgian comicbook TheSmurfs, which is being released on July 29, 2011. The story focuses on six of the Smurfs (Papa, Smurfette, Brainy, Gutsy, Clumsy and Grouchy) being transported via a magical portal stumbled upon by Clumsy to modern day New York City after the evil wizard Gargamel manages to finally locate their village. Once there, they manage to run into a young couple (NeilPatrickHarris and JaymaMays) who acts as their SecretKeeper until they can figure out a way to return back to their own time period. Unfortunately, Gargamel and his cat Azrael have also managed to find their way through the portal, and his scheme of using the Smurfs to make his magic dangerously powerful may come to light unless they can Smurf him.

** BrokenAesop: Of course, Smurfette has to be introduced to being a ''SexInTheCity''-style shopaholic.

* MarilynManeuver: Executed by Smurfette, to the apparent admiration of the other Smurfs -- except Gutsy, who proceeds to do the same with a kilt.

Of course, anyone who watched The Smurfs for three minutes knew that role was given to Hefty Smurf. Of course, since Hefty's only characteristic was a tattoo on his right shoulder, he probably didn't stand out enough. Hefty Smurf does have a very minor role, so it isn't a case of DidNotDoTheResearch. It's more an example of FollowTheLeader to ''{{Shrek}}''.
** Or possibly to ''{{Discworld}}'', which has a race of tiny, violent, blue Scotsmen. Gutsy is a Feegle through and through.

* HeyItsThatGuy: Tim Gunn shows up. Playing a role rather similar to his most famous one. He even says "Make it work!".

* TotallyRadical: Papa Smurf wearing the Rayfarer sunglasses? Yep. Smurfs ''rapping''. Yes, we've entered ThePoochie levels.
