''The Silver Chalice'' is a 1954 American film directed by Creator/VictorSaville, based on Thomas B. Costain's 1952 novel of the same name, and starring Creator/PaulNewman in his film debut, alongside Creator/VirginaMayo, Creator/PierAngeli, Creator/JackPalance and Creator/NatalieWood. It was Saville's last film.

The film concerns Basil (Newman), a Greek artist from Antioch who is commissioned to make a silver cup with the faces of UsefulNotes/{{Jesus}} and his disciples sculpted on it, and ends up being sold into slavery. Meanwhile, a con man is trying to convince the crowds that he is the new Messiah by using nothing but tricks.
