* ArtisticLicenseLaw:
** If Hudsucker died without a will, company policy does not determine who inherits his stock, state law does. Typical order is spouse, children, parents, siblings, children of siblings. If he had none of these, the stock is transferred to the state where they died, a practice called "escheat." Unless the state is required to hold the shares for a certain amount of time, the shares would be sold, and the state would hold on to the money. If some relative of the deceased who is elligible to inherit is found or comes forward, they would get the shares if not yet sold, or if they were, the cash value the state received.
** Back in the 1950s, federal income tax was ''very'' heavy, and interitance would be fully taxable. The first $60,000 was exempt, the rest would be subject to a tax rate of probably about 75%, since the value of the shares was probably several million dollars. Whoever got the shares would probably have to sell most of them to pay the tax bill.

* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Amy lights into Norville for letting success go to his head and approving a massive workforce reduction that would lay off 80% of Hudsucker's employees, tossing out a quick "Shuttup!" each time he tries to speak in his defense and ending the ass-chewing by handing in her resignation (and petulantly kicking Norville's hired muscle in the shin on her way out the door).

* BadLiar: Amy Archer didn't put much thought into her cover story, having to weakly bluff her way through Norville's college fight song and later backpedal on her annual New Year's visit to a local beatnik bar being MetaphoricallyTrue, since she previously claimed to have only just arrived in New York when they met. Lucky for Amy, he's a bit of an imbecile and never suspects anything's up with her (he even still buys that she's really from Muncie after learning she lied about everything else).

* GeniusDitz: Norville Barnes comes by his "imbecile" descriptor honestly for the most part, but he also comes up with simple and inexpensive, yet highly marketable and profitable ideas that make a killing for Hudsucker Industries. He's also a pretty good judge of character, missing by a mile on her actual looks, but successfully ''nailing'' Amy's real personality and idiosyncrasies just from reading her hit piece on him, to the point of getting under her skin.

* ForWantOfANail: Norville barely catches onto Sid Mussburger's ankles when he accidentally goes out a window. When the waistband of his pants begin to tear away, Sid thinks back to himself turning down the tailor's offer to double-stitch his suit's trousers. It's then immediately subverted when another flashback shows the tailor chose to give him the double-stitch anyway out of the goodness of his own heart. The trousers hold firm, saving Mussburger from falling to his death.

* AlternateHistory: Done in a rather tongue-in-cheek way, but the movie posits that the Hula Hoop and Frisbee were both created by Norville Barnes and manufactured by Hudsucker Industries, rather than by real-life manufacturer Wham-O. The credits properly attribute both toys to the real-life company responsible for them.[[note]]Okay, so the concepts behind the Hula Hoop and the Frisbee predate Wham-O by quite a while, but both toys as we know them today are nevertheless produced by said company.[[/note]]

* DebatingNames: Part of the Hudsucker Corporation's effort to market the "Extruded Plastic Dingus" toy involves marketing a catchy name; two ad men are seen running through a list of bizarre names ("The Shazamator! The Hipster! The Daddy-O!") and eventually argue between "Hoopsucker" and "Hudswinger." Finally, a third ad man speaks up with something that ultimately sticks... the "Hula Hoop."
