Fawcett may be the name of the Philly neighborhood Billy lives in; one of Freddy's bullies wears a t-shirt for Fawcett High School.

* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Billy strolling around in broad daylight in his superhero form doesn't draw the same kind of attention that [[Film/ManOfSteel Clark]] and [[Film/WonderWoman2017 Diana]] did, which is understandable considering most of the Justice League would be household names by this point and Freddy was using social media to promote Philadelphia's hometown hero.

* HardTruthAesop: If someone is not making any effort to be part of your life, at a certain point you need to give up on them and move on, no matter how much you love and miss them. Billy's social worker points out that his mother obviously hasn't been looking for him even from the moment they were separated, [[spoiler:and when he does finally track her down, she isn't in any position to take care of him, nor does she wish to, and Billy realises that he wasted so many chances at a home and a new family for one he never really had at all]].

Added DiffLines:

* DepartmentOfChildDisservices: Billy's social worker Ms. Glover is rather unsympathetic towards him, telling him that the foster parents he ran away from don't want him and that his mother has evidently never tried to find him, using language that a real and competent social worker would ''never'' employ towards a vulnerable child.

* CracksInTheIcyFacade: Billy Batson was abandoned as a child, and has spent the bulk of his childhood ditching foster homes. He seems to want nothing to do with anyone or anything that isn't his missing mother. The first clue that he isn't completely closed off is when he feels visibly guilty about hurting his new foster-sister Darla's feelings. He follows it up by demonstrating that while he was initially standoffish to his foster family, he wasn't cool with watching a pair of bullies attack the crippled Freddie Freeman, and attacks them both with the crutch they took off of Freddie. This action is what earns him attention of the Wizard, and gain his powers.

* AdultsAreUseless: None of the staff stop the Breyer Brothers' bullying nor even punish them -- beating a kid with a crutch should've got them expelled, let alone hitting him hard enough with their truck to leave a scratch on the paint, right in front of the school in front of dozens of witnesses.

Added DiffLines:

* DeducingTheSecretIdentity: When Billy's foster siblings see Shazam arguing with Freddy on the news, Mary pieces together that Billy is Shazam because not only were Billy and Freddy similarly arguing at the dinner table, but when Shazam rescued Mary earlier in the film, he knew her name and that she lived in a foster home. Darla, who found out Billy was Shazam earlier in the film and promised to keep it a secret, congratulates the kids for finding out on their own.

* ExcitedShowTitle: The film's title is in CapsLock and ends with an exclamation mark. The title is not only the superhero's name, it's also evoking [[ByThePowerOfGrayskull the magic word]] Billy has to pronounce to turn into said superhero.

* LuckyTranslation: The "your phone is charged" scene is ''even funnier'' with the Cantonese captions, because in Cantonese to fully charge a phone can be expressed as, literally, charging till it explodes, making it look like Billy is carelessly TemptingFate until it blows up in his face.

** Eugene gets a moment of Little Brother Instinct during Brett's and Burke's bullying: they have Freddy on the ground, Billy jumps in to help, and he gets knocked down too. Eugene steals the bullies' nunchuks to try to defend his brothers, though he only succeeds in [[WhatTheFuAreYouDoing hitting himself upside the head with them]]. Still, it serves as an effective distraction for Billy to get away.

Added DiffLines:

* WhatTheFuAreYouDoing: Eugene steals the Breyers' nunchuks out of Burke's pocket while they're whaling on his older brothers Freddy and Billy, and attempts use them to get the bullies to stop. It doesn't go well:
-->'''Eugene''': Back off, assbags, I know how to use these things! ''(Promptly smacks himself in the back of the head with the nunchuks)'' '''''Ow'''''.

* FerrisWheelOfDoom: In the climax, Dr. Sivana unleashes the sins in a crowded amusement park which inevitably had them target the Ferris Wheel, causing the supporting beams to collapse. ** The first time is the most classic example; he abducts Freddy, brings him home and captures the rest of the siblings, and holds them there. Billy receives a phone call seemingly from Freddy, but it turns out to be Sivana using his phone, with Freddy yelling in the background. He then states that he'll only let them go if Billy comes with him to the Rock of Eternity and surrenders his powers, though the rest of the kids follow them JustInTime.
** The second time, the Sins manage to catch the kids at the carnival, and Sivana makes it clear that he'll have all of them killed in front of Billy--starting with Darla, the youngest--unless he surrenders. Billy is able to save them by remembering the Wizard's words and sharing his powers with them.

** At first Billy was just using his powers to show off and had no interest in genuine heroics. Sivana and the sins could have done pretty much anything and he probably wouldn't have interfered. But the Sins insisted that Sivana eliminate the only person who could challenge their power, forcing Billy to become a hero for real to defeat him, [[spoiler:and later share his powers with his foster siblings as well]].

** When Sivana returns to the Rock of Eternity, he rightfully calls out the Wizard Shazam for putting him through his test of character while he was a child and then saying he would never be worthy when he failed. This drove him to spend years seeking a way to return to the Rock of Eternity where he immediately takes the Eye of Sin and releases the seven sins.
