''Red Notice'' is a 2021 American action/heist comedy film written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, starring Wrestling/DwayneJohnson, Creator/RyanReynolds and Creator/GalGadot.

Originally produced by Creator/{{Universal}} and Creator/LegendaryPictures for a theatrical release, the film was released on Creator/{{Netflix}} on November 12, 2021. Like several of Netflix's other 2021 releases, it had a limited theatrical run in AMC theaters starting on November 5.

** Inspector Das sends Hartley and Booth to a HellholePrison in Russia so that the experience will soften them up into cooperating. Interpol exists to facilitate cooperation between police forces and doesn't have the authority to arrest and imprison people.

* ArtisticLicenseLaw: The movie's description of a "red notice" as the highest level of "arrest warrant" used by Interpol is a bit misleading. Interpol has multiple [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpol_notice color-coded types of notices]] and while Red does explicitly call for local authorities to make an arrest, you could argue that Orange is a higher priority since it concerns immediate threats to people or property. For example, [[https://www.interpol.int/News-and-Events/News/2020/INTERPOL-warns-of-organized-crime-threat-to-COVID-19-vaccines in December of 2020]], Interpol issued a warning to 194 countries of organized crime becoming a threat to COVID-19 vaccines.
** Also, saying it's reserved for "the world's most wanted criminals" is a very simplistic way of putting it when you consider how Interpol's policy of neutrality has sometimes led to red notices being issued for questionable reasons by certain states; as specified [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpol_notice#Red_notice_controversies by Wikipedia]], they have been used by regimes to call for the arrests of dissidents, and by China to repatriate Uyghurs.
** Criminals do not go to jail immediately upon arrest, there has to be a trial and sentencing first. This is especially important when you consider that while Booth was caught red-handed, the case against Hartley was circumstantial (he was a man with questionable credentials who had been alone with the egg shortly after the last time it was known to have not been replaced with a fake, but all that proves is that he ''could'' have stolen the egg, not that he ''did''). Handwaved by the two being sent to a place that, in Das' words, "due process forgot", but that just begs the question as to how and why an Interpol agent is able to do such a thing.
** The vast majority of the inmates of a nation's prisons are people who have committed crimes in and/or against that nation. Booth and Hartley are accused of stealing the property of an Italian museum from Italy and Bali, respectively, one has to wonder why the Russians were willing to incarcerate them, seeing as they have no skin in this game. While Booth was presumably wanted in Russia, Hartley never committed a crime there.

* ForeShadowing: There are many hints foreshadowing the big twist, serving as a RewatchBonus.

* EyeContactAsProof: Hartley tells Das to look him in the eyes as proof that he's not a thief. [[SubvertedTrope She still doesn't believe him]].

* ClearMyName: Bishop erases Hartley's FBI credentials and frames him as a thief, so Hartley spends most of the movie trying to capture her so he can prove his innocence and get his life back. [[spoiler:Ultimately subverted; it turns out that he was secretly Bishop's partner all along - he never ''was'' an FBI agent.]]

** When confronting Sarah in Sotto Voce's vault, after she grabs a lance, Harley breaks the glass to recover a shield. It's very close to him, but he has actual weapons within reach (Booth immediately goes for a gun). [[spoiler: This way he and Sarah can pretend to fight while minimizing the risks of actually injuring each other.]]

* ClearMyName: Bishop erases Hartley's FBI credentials and frames him as a thief, so Hartley spends most of the movie trying to capture her so he can prove his innocence and get his life back. [[spoiler:Until it turns out that he never was an FBI agent and was secretly Bishop's partner all along.]]

* ForeShadowing: A few hints at the twist, serving as a RewatchBonus.
** The method the Bishop used to frame Hartley [[spoiler:makes no sense, as it would only have worked to get him arrested initially, but once that happened, it would have been all too easy for Hartley to contact the FBI and prove his identity... had he been a real FBI profiler.]]

** Hartley managed to swipe Sotto Voce's phone from him in a display of [[PercussivePickpocket close-contact pickpocketing]] that impresses Booth. [[spoiler: Not exactly a skill that an FBI agent needs for the field.]]

** Hartley himself pointing out [[spoiler: chess is played with ''two'' Bishops.]]

** [[spoiler:Hartley]] is decidedly ''unlike'' [[spoiler:the usual musclebound CloudCuckoolander Dwayne Johnson]] is known for in similar movies. He has a noticeably hard time fighting even physically inferior opponents like [[spoiler:the Bishop]], and whenever he's forced into a hand-to-hand confrontation, he does rather poorly. He's also remarkably willing to [[spoiler:shoot at law enforcement officials, and outright ''steals a car'' in the intro]]. All of this foreshadows that [[spoiler:he isn't actually an FBI agent]].

* MacGuffin: A set of three jewel encrusted gold eggs commissioned by Mark Anthony for Cleopatra in the first century BC, that an Egyptian billionaire wants to give to his daughter Cleo at her wedding.
** This is lampshaded as Booth and Hartley search for the third egg.

* PhantomThief: Sarah Black is quite hard to catch indeed.

* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Booth, in a small, petty act of revenge against Hartley for the former's arrest, yells out to the prisoners at the Russian jail that Hartley is definitely ''not'' a member of law enforcement. Hartley gets his ass kicked for it.
* SympatheticInspectorAntagonist: Inspector Das, who chases Booth and Hartley throughout the movie, is an honest law enforcement officer who is just doing her job (although the whole "Russian blacksite" thing might make a dent in the "sympathetic" part).
* VillainProtagonist: Booth. [[spoiler:And as it turns out, Hartley.]]

* TheReveal: [[spoiler:Hartley was always working with The Bishop and was in on the egg heist from the beginning.]]

That he didn't, and instead teamed up with her to escape, is really when Booth should have realised what was going on.]]

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Booth is a criminal master thief, but he gradually comes to respect Hartley over the course of the story and even abandons the [[spoiler: third egg]] just to save him from drowning (even though Hartley had safely gone to shore then). [[spoiler: There's also Bishop and Hartley, who are nothing but in love with each other.

* ArtisticLicenseCars: [[spoiler: Yes, of course an 80 year old vintage car that has not been touched or maintained would have ''all'' its internal and external parts working and have a full tank of gas to be driven away by the protagonists. And the enemy Nazi cars all work perfectly too.]]

** In a real game of Chess, it's impossible to checkmate using one Bishop. [[spoiler: This foreshadows the reveal Sotto Voce was a Pawn to her, Hartley was the second Bishop and Booth was yet another Pawn.]]

* EvilVsEvil: Ultimately this is a film without any heroes (except [[GoodIsNotSoft Das]] and [[ActionHero Hartley]]) , but on the plus side they're all AffablyEvil, and Booth at least is a charismatic AntiVillain who doesn't try to hurt anyone in his crimes, just steal priceless items for money and the thrill. [[spoiler: And then it turns out Hartley was in cahoots with the Bishop the whole time.]]
