** The bully from detention that Jason slapped decides that since Jason stopped him from tormenting Billy then, [[DisproportionateRetribution he was going to break Billy's wrist in the hallway in broad daylight]]. Unfortunately, this is ''after'' Billy becomes a Ranger, and he's only able to ineffectually hold Billy's wrist unable to do any damage. [[WhatAnIdiot So he decides to headbutt him.]]

* ThePowerOfFriendship: For a Ranger to be able to transform in this continuity, he or she ''must'' trust and love his or her teammates as if they are their actual family; any less and the suits within will refuse to materialize. Though how Rita can still morph after betraying her team is a mystery. Though given how [[BodyHorror drastically different her morphing is,]] [[ImpliedTrope it's clear she's not SUPPOSED to be able to keep doing it.]]

* ThePowerOfFriendship: For a Ranger to be able to transform in this continuity, he or she ''must'' trust and love his or her teammates as if they are their actual family; any less and the suits within will refuse to materialize. Though how Rita can still morph after betraying her team is a mystery.

* SequelInAnotherMedium: ''Aftershock" picks up right after the movie ends and deals with fallout of Rita's defeat and the government suddenly gaining an interest in the rangers.

* TrainEscape: The Rangers pull this trick to escape from the police after discovering the Power Coins. [[RealityEnsues They get reamed by the train, and the only reason they aren't reduced to mulch is because the Power Coins have already turned them into superheroes.]]

* YouDontLookLikeYou: Unfortunately, this hits almost every notable character in the film ''hard'', with the arguable exception of Zordon, who even then is stuck in a wall instead of a tube.

** Goldar, the series' biggest villain aside from Rita and Lord Zedd, is turned from a sentient alien warrior wearing golden armor to a mindless (and voiceless) giant monster that looks like it was formed out of melted cheese.

** The Dino Zords are such metallic mish mash they make the Creator/MichaelBay Film/{{Transformers}} look good. Not only that, but the filmmakers clearly tried to make them look the least like dinosaurs and prehistoric animals that they could probably get away with - ''the Mastodon has six legs.''

** The Power Rangers themselves are probably the least affected out of this group, but they still go from sleek and agile warriors to looking like clunky ComicBook/IronMan suits designed by Creator/HRGiger, with the dinosaur faces on their helmets rather hard to distinguish - Jason's tyrannosaurus is decent enough, but the other four helmets all look like the Pink Ranger's pterodactyl.

* Informed Species: Of all Battle Zords, Mastodon is the only one who barely resembles the animal it was modelled after, with its eight backwards-bent insectoid legs and lack of distinct elephant-like characteristics barring trunk and tusks, and even then the resemblance to these respective body parts is too loose to be correctly identified.

* InformedSpecies: While still called by the names of prehistoric animals like their show counterparts, the Zords look quite different: while the Tyrannosaurus is still recognizable as one, the Triceratops has six legs and looks more beetle-like, the Mastodon is an eight-legged insectoid, the Sabertooth more closely resembles a skeletal-looking cheetah, and the Pterodactyl is just straight-up a fighter jet.

* ThemeTuneCameo: [[Film/MightyMorphinPowerRangersTheMovie The 1995 version]], to be exact. It plays when the Rangers finally activate their Zords.

The film's cast includes Dacre Montgomery as Jason (the Red Ranger), Naomi Scott as Kimberly (the Pink Ranger), RJ Cyler as Billy (the Blue Ranger), Becky Gomez as Trini (the Yellow Ranger), and Creator/LudiLin as Zack (the Black Ranger). Creator/ElizabethBanks has also been cast as Rita Repulsa and Creator/BryanCranston (who voiced two monsters in the original series and was [[{{Tuckerization}} the source of Billy's original last name]]) has been cast as Zordon, with [[Series/SaturdayNightLive Bill]] [[WesternAnimation/CloudyWithAChanceOfMeatballs Hader]] as Alpha 5.

** Naomi Scott, [[Film/LemonadeMouth once again]], becomes part of a five person group with four other teenagers. What's more, not only do most of them meet each other in detention, but in one scene it's suggested that they form a band!

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar:
** The opening prank, specifically how Jason's friend milked the ''bull'', mistaking it for a female.
** The RunningGag of Billy cutting his cursing short.
** When Zordon asks the Rangers if they have ever morphed, Zack replies that he has, but "only in the shower."

* AdaptationalDiversity: A few race lifts (avoiding the [[Series/MightyMorphinPowerRangers original show]]'s implications in casting the Black and Yellow Rangers as black and Asian) -- although Jason is now clearly white instead of ambiguously so, Kimberly is now biracial Indian/Caucasian[[note]]as opposed to white[[/note]], Billy is black and autistic[[note]]as opposed to white and seemingly neurotypical[[/note]], Trini is Latina and LGBT[[note]]as opposed to Asian, and confirmed LGBT by WordOfGay[[/note]], Zack is Asian[[note]]as opposed to black[[/note]].

** The mentions of ''Franchise/IronMan'' and ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'' also fall into this, as Creator/FredTatasciore, who voiced the Putties and Goldar, voiced a number of Marvel and ''Transformers'' characters, including Comicbook/TheIncredibleHulk, Iron Monger, Megatron, and Ratchet. The ''Spider-Man'' reference also falls under this for Tatasciore, given his Marvel roles included J. Jonah Jameson, the Rhino, Carnage, Sandman, [[VideoGame/SpiderManEdgeOfTime Atrocity]], and later the same year this film came out, [[WesternAnimation/MarvelsSpiderMan Max Modell]].

** Then the aversion is turned up in the tie in graphic novel, where the police chief is shown to be capable in maintaining the peace in Angel Grove's tent city after the battle against Goldar, and is suspicious of the charity organization that appears after the disaster.

* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Just when you think we'll finally get to see the Dino Zords coming together and forming the Megazord for the first time... The Zords fall down a pit, there's a big explosion, and then the Megazord rises up out of the smoke and fire, already fully formed.

** The Zords' controls involve hand controls ''and'' some kind of umbilical cord in the back, just like [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans the Alaya-Vijnana system]], or the plugsuits from ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion''; it also resembles the brain uplink used by [[WesternAnimation/ExoSquad E-Frames]] or [[Anime/GhostInTheShell cyber brains]].

* DistantPrologue: The film begins in the Cenozoic era, where the original Rangers (except Zordon) are being wiped out by Rita before she is sent into the sea. Then the scene cuts to the present day.

* BodyHorror: Rita's corrupted Ranger armor appears to grow ''out'' of her as opposed to just materializing over her like the Rangers' armor does once they finally morph.
** A downplayed example with the Zords, having a more blended techno-organic appearance as opposed to the blocky designs of the originals, which, coupled with their more alien-looking anatomy, can be quite unsettling

** The Zords took the forms they did because dinosaurs were the most powerful creatures in Earth at the time. Except, not only are not all of those creatures dinosaurs, but they didn't all exist at the same time.
