I don't think that applying the word evil is entirely appropriate when you consider different narrative viewpoints. You could call it the American's liberating Vietnam from the evils of communism. Alternatively, you could interpret it as Vietnam fighting against the evils of imperialism. Either, the situation remains an incredible point of contention.
