** Boyce states he received his draft notice three months before D-Day. A timeline that short wouldn't be enough to complete induction, basic training, jump training and be assigned to deploying jump unit. The D-Day paratroopers trained for two years before Operation Overlord. A draftee inducted in March 1944 would likely arrive in Europe as a replacement around November or December.

Both the heigh and the fact the cable is torn off (so they verbally mention manual deploy) are shown and talked over in-story, with reasoning why both happen against doctrine

** The paratroopers are shown jumping free fall (jumping, then pulling the cord to open the chute). The D-Day jumps were static line (the cord is hooked onto a cable inside the plane so the chute opens instantly on jumping). The drops were at 700 feet AGL to minimize the paratroopers' exposure to enemy fire, which is too short for free fall (the first ten seconds of free fall equals 1,000 feet), whereas they are depicted falling for thirty seconds before opening the chute.

Plot happens.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Most of the paratroopers (including ultra-badass Sergeant Rensin, although ''he'' at least makes it to the ground in one piece) are killed when the plane is riddled with flak-fire and ripped in half over the jump zone. Only a handful of men are able to link up on the ground and avoid the German patrols, and Corporal Ford has to take over the mission because he’s the only NCO that even makes it that far.

* AlternateHistory: The film is apparently set in an Alternate 1940s where the US Armed Forces are desegregated in 1944 (In real life the US military was desegregated on July 26, 1948) or could be set in the{{Creator/MachineGames}}" VideoGame/{{Wolfenstein}}’ series in an Alternate universe where the Axis Powers are winning World War II, and vice president UsefulNotes/HarrySTruman managed to successfully convince President UsefulNotes/FranklinDRoosevelt to desegregated the US Military in a will of manpower.
