** Played straight with Norbit and Kate, whose two kisses (the first when they are staging her wedding vows, and the second after Rasputia's defeat) are romantic.

* CoolLoser: Norbit. The fact that Rasputia has to threaten a boy so he picks Norbit over a boy with a halo illustrates his status as one.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Rasputia chases Norbit in a rage when Norbit curses her for cheating on him... but the chase doesn’t last long due to her being morbidly obese. She’s soon wheezing and crumbling to the ground, unable to carry on the chase.

** Averted with Norbit. He does not feel any physical attraction. On the contrary, he is disgusted by her. Later, Rasputia desperately tries to convince Kate that Norbit is this. It's unclear if she really believes it or if she's just lying to make Kate jealous.

* FanDisservice: Many, many scenes with Rasputia wearing short clothes, bikinis, lingerie or even naked, to the horror of Norbit, Kate and everyone around her. Of course, viewers who are Chubby Chaser's may enjoy scenes with Rasputia.

* MenAreBetterThanWomen: Norbit is more wiser and reasonable than his ex-wife Rasputia.

* PsychopathicManchild: Rasputia shows shades of this, as when she is told “no”, she throws violent tantrums and screams like a kid having a meltdown. Her use of a potato doll for her threat on Kate’s life is also rather demented.

The film opens with Norbit Albert Rice's (Murphy) parents throwing him to the front of an orphanage from the car door as a baby. Norbit grows up there, which is run by a [[JapaneseRanguage stereotypical Asian man who cannot pronounce "L"]] (also played by Murphy). He falls in love with fellow orphan Kate Thomas (Creator/ThandieNewton) and the two, as children, eventually pretend to marry each other with Ring Pops under a tree. Eventually, the two are separated when she is adopted.

** Brutally subverted with Norbit and Rasputia. Their first kiss occurs at the wedding. Norbit tries to give her a peck. In turn, Rasputia forces him to kiss her with a tongue, much to the horror of the guests, who make no point of hiding his disgust at the scene, and also to Norbit's horror, judging by the way he moves his legs during the kiss.

* ChasedByAngryNatives: [[spoiler: Rasputia was the only reason the town never took action against the Latimores (until the climax at least). Once Mr. Wong sends her fleeing after spearing her from behind, they have no problem running her brothers out of town.]]

* AbhorrentAdmirer: Rasputia becomes this to Norbit. As children at the orphanage, the burly, bigger Rasputia saves Norbit from bullies but demands that he become her boyfriend. Norbit has no attraction to Rasputia, either by her looks or her personality, but he accepts because she is the only person who protects him and also because he is afraid of her. Decades later, they've married, though she she abuses him physically, psychologically and sexually, and even cheats on him which breaks his heart. In spite of her own infidelity, the morbidly obese Rasputia also demands that he have eyes for no one but her, which the long-suffering idiot patiently does for many years despite her constant abuse.
