Having been reassigned to the unenviable night shift at the New York City morgue where he works, mild-mannered Chuck Lumley (Winkler) struggles to get along with his new assistant, the wacky and exuberant Bill Blazejowski (Keaton, in his StarMakingRole). Meanwhile, Chuck's neighbor Belinda Keaton (Long) is a HookerWithAHeartOfGold who's struggling to get along since her pimp was murdered. Chuck's GoodSamaritan efforts to help Belinda and Bill, and their penchant for {{Zany Scheme}}s, eventually lead to them running a prostitution ring out of the morgue. HilarityEnsues.

Providing a link to the article! Also, it was producer Brian Grazer who came up with the premise of “Night Shift” after reading a 1976 New York Times article about three guys getting arrested for running a prostitution ring inside of a morgue. “Night Shift” wasn’t conceived by the screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel.

* AngryGuardDog: Chuck is tormented by one throughout the film. After his CharacterDevelopment, he sends it away be yelling, "Go home!"
