* CallingTheOldManOut: Lyle manages to pull off this trope on Hector without uttering a single word. When Valenti [[spoiler:breaks into crocodile enclosure in order to release Lyle and ends up trapped inside, the titular reptile doesn't seem to bother that other, non-sentient crocs are about to attack his previous owner and eat him. * JustEatGilligan: Given almost every character's initial reaction to Lyle was that of shock and fear, the audience can easily point out that the absurdity of an anthropomorphic, bipedal singing crocodile was never addressed at all. Clearly, the film's premise is not meant to be taken seriously, and being a musical it goes with the territory.

You can't really call it "realistic" that people don't like being near a singing crocodile

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: The books never really made a particularly big deal out of a crocodile, even an anthropomorphic one, being able to stay at the house on East 88th Street. The movie, conversely, does, and people are repeatedly startled or, in Mr. Grumps's case, outright adverse to living among a singing crocodile. [[spoiler:This leads to Lyle being taken away to the zoo, and even after he proves his talent to the masses, there is still no legal reason for Lyle to be allowed to stay at the house. It's only after Hector finds his old family deed that allows exotic animals to stay in the house that Lyle is able to remain on 88th Street.]]
