I've rewritten this example a bunch of times and I think I'll just leave it at this... I admit I don't like Ambiguous Disorder as a trope. It just feels so armchair-y. Also, on further thought, this isn't really an example of Idiot Ball, because that's when a character who is always shown as competent otherwise does something mindlessly dumb in order to move the plot along. Going along with Jody's threat was dumb but in a way that made sense for a politician who's a Slave To PR, and the movie didn't really suggest that Stratton was anything but that sort of person. I think I'll move it to Headscratchers.
