* GenreSavvy: Destro's ancestor finds out the hard way that the French are not falling for the MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning trap and decide to make an example of him by forcing a red hot metal mask on his face.

** Albeit it can be justified. Duke and Ripcord are relatively new to the armors and this is their first use in actual missions. Plus, Ripcord [[ReadTheFreakingManual didn't read the instructions manual]]. You can't expect them to be InstantExperts in actual real life use of the suits - though barely keeping up with a very fast object and then going to being unable to keep up with much slower objects is kind of odd.

* TheAce: A mild {{Deconstruction}} with Scarlett, who is so used to being one of the best that she takes any failure much harder than anyone else.

** Even this troper (who disliked the film) is compelled to acknowledge that Snake Eyes was a badass. [[Spoiler: The chase scene, he keeps up with the badguys without aid of a special suit, whilst the main characters barely manage despite them.]]

* DogFighting: Unlike most examples, this one took place under water.

* EstrogenBrigadeBait: Byung-Hun Lee as Storm Shadow. Plus some other guys.

* {{Chickification}}: Baroness, a strong female villain, is reduced to being nothing more than a love interest who is bandied about between Destro, her husband [[spoiler:who her brother and Destro forced her to marry just to steal his research]], and Duke. Not to mention the BS that is [[spoiler:the reveal that she was never on their side of her own volition, and that her brother had used nanites to brainwash her into becoming evil]]. Scarlett survives more-or-less intact, but Cover Girl (ex-model turned tank driver turned spy) [[DemotedToExtra gets reduced to being Hawk's assistant and killed without being given a chance to defend herself.]] [[UnfortunateImplications And the person who killed her stabbed her in the back with a very phallic knife and called her "sweetheart".]] (In CG's case, it's explained in the prequel novel that she had been critically injured on a mission and was no longer physically capable of being a field operative.)

* IAmNotShazam: The bad guys are all MARS troopers or employees. Not COBRA. This is actually a major plot point; Cobra does not exist until the end of the film.

** What do you mean "not obvious"? The SHARCs and Mantises dogfight as if they're jet fighters, down to machine-gunning each other.

* WaterIsAir: While not obvious, the effects of particles in the underwater fight scene moved very much like they were in air, not accounting for the difference in density, especially in cold water. In fact, the speed at which it moved was comparable to that in air.

* GatlingGood: Heavy Duty's weapons and the Delta-6 "Accelerator Suit" powered armours. Heavy Duty describes the Delta's gatlings as gatling sub-machine guns that fire at 50 rounds a minute, which has ''got'' to be RuleOfCool because unless they have an internal magazine with thousands of rounds what's the point of a gatling gun that fires at only 50 rounds a minute?

* PinPullingTeeth: Ripcord, before stuffing the grenade into an armored Cobra agent.

* [[DeadLittleSister Dead Little Brother]]: The Baroness' StartOfDarkness motivation.

* DesignatedGirlFight: A rather brutal example involving Baroness, Scarlett, a chain, a screwdriver, and a pan of motor oil. Played with in that Scarlett is wearing [=BDUs=] instead of, say, her workout clothes, and Baroness hits her in the face with the pan.

''GI Joe The Rise Of Cobra'' is a 2009 action movie directed by Stephen Sommers (''[[TheMummyTrilogy The Mummy]]'' and ''VanHelsing''), based on the GIJoe franchise by Hasbro. The story follows two soldiers, Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans), part of a squad which gets ambushed while delivering four hi-tech warheads - and to Duke's surprise, one of the assailants is his ex-girlfriend Ana, now going as "TheBaroness" (Sienna Miller). Duke and Ripcord are saved from the attack by an elite squad of soldiers called G.I. Joe, who take over the warhead mission and let the duo join the team. Unfortunately, as Baroness's team tracks the warheads back to the Joes base, Duke realizes that Baroness is his ex-girlfriend/sister of his presumed deceased best friend, who is engaging in a massive XanatosGambit to rule the world.

* AcePilot: Ripcord, despite supposedly being U.S. Army Special Forces rather than a pilot ({{Handwave}}d early on by a [[ChekhovsSkill mention]] of him scoring really high in a flight training program, and wanting all along to go into the Air Force). He's even openly referred to as "Ace" once or twice by other characters.

* ArcWords: Not exactly ''words'', so to speak, but Zartan is quite fond of whistling the tune to "Jolly Good Fellow". [[spoiler: When the man we think is the President comes out of the bunker, he goes into his office, relaxes and begins whistling. No prizes for guessing the tune.]]

* BadassInANiceSuit: Storm Shadow is probably the best-dressed person in the film. [=McCullen=] deserves notice, too, as his suit is [[strike:''amazing'']] ''[[ShoutOut fan-TAS-tic.]]''

* ShoutOut: Many, [[YourMileageMayVary perhaps to the point of distraction.]]
