* CringeComedy: Like Creator/SteveCarell in ''Film/The40YearOldVirgin'', Peter gets humiliated a lot in R rated territory, most notably the breakup scene. There is also some less raunchy scenes that make the audience cringe like the scene where Rachel mistakes Peter's crying for a woman's.
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: Sarah stars on the TV show "''Crime Scene - Scene of the Crime''."

* JerkassBall: Peter loudly calling Sarah the "Goddamn devil" was a bit much right after [[spoiler:he'd initially reciprocated having make-up sex with her]] and interrupting a wedding in progress by purposely yelling was the icing on the cake.

* KavorkaMan: Aldous for his part has fame and money, but Peter dates two beautiful women, one a massive TV star and sleeps with a few others while being a relative unknown as well as being unconfident and slobbish.

* LovableSexManiac: Aldous will sleep with ''anyone'', and isn't shy about talking about it. Nonetheless, he's very kind and likeable.

When Aldous quietly snaps and dismisses him, there are two outcomes depending on the cut: he either appears to get the message and trudges off without a word, or now tells Aldous he hates him and threatens to poison him.

* AManIsAlwaysEager: Averted; Peter is unable to get aroused enough to have sex with Sarah because he can't forget about her recently breaking his heart.

* TheModestOrgasm: One of the women Peter sleeps with, who moans in a dead monotone and flatly states that "[she] just came."

* OneHeadTaller: Peter (6'4"), Sarah Marshall (5'1"), Rachel (5'3"). Lampshaded in the beginning by a photographer who calls Peter "Andre the Giant" and "Mutombo" when telling him to get out of the shot.
