It gained massive notoriety thanks to a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C67thOEtVNQ two]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY6H3_d61zc part]] review by WebVideo/YourMovieSucksDotOrg. While he did ultimately pan the film, he admitted that Derek's heart was in the right place as he was making the movie.

Controversy rose in November 2015 when it arose that Derek had personally been issuing [[https://kiwifar.ms/threads/daddy-derek-savage-creator-of-cool-cat-saves-the-kids.14449/ take down notices]] to several Youtubers who had reviewed the movie (most notably WebVideo/IHateEverything). This escalated very quickly and Derek soon lost the respect of the people who admired how accepting he was of YMS' review. Time will tell whether or not the situation cools down.
