* AsHimself: The credits list [[Franchise/TheMuppets Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy]], who appear briefly on the television in a dream sequence, "As Himself/Herself".

to:

* GoryDiscretionShot: Most deaths are only shown briefly.briefly, cut away right before the kill happens, or occur just off-camera.

* HorrorHatesARulebreaker: David and Jack are repeatedly told to StayOnThePath when travelling through East Proctor at night and never go into the moors. Guess what happens? Whether or not staying on the path actually would've saved them isn't clear though.

* ICannotSelfTerminate: David is repeatedly told by the ghost of Jack that the only way to set both of them free of the curse, is for David to kill himself. After his first rampage, David realizes he's not hallucinating and attempts to commit suicide by slitting his wrists, but can't build up the courage to do so. He doesn't get another chance before his next transformation.

* MoodWhiplash: At the very end no less. [[spoiler:David is shot dead by the police after his gruesome rampage after Alex fails to appeal to his human side by declaring her love for her. The film ends on her crying over his gunshot-riddled corpse, and then it ''immediately'' cuts to the cheery and upbeat "Blue Moon" by The Marcels playing over the credits, which includes [[Franchise/TheMuppets Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy]] in the credits ("[[AsHimself As Himself/Herself]]").]]

* TorchesAndPitchforks: A rare heroic example. When the pub members realize the two American tourists are likely wandering to their doom with the werewolf prowling about, they eventually decide they have to help and gather up a heavily-armed posse to hunt down the beast. Unfortunately, their initial reluctance leads to Jack already being killed and David being scratched, allowing the werewolf to pass the curse onto him before being shot dead.

* TownWithADarkSecret: East Proctor.

to:

* TownWithADarkSecret: East Proctor. There's a man-eating werewolf that stalks the moors every full moon, but they dare not tell anyone for fear of being ridiculed.
* TransformationDiscretionShot: Zigzagged. The transformation from man to wolf is shown in extreme and prolonged detail, but the transformation back from wolf to man is never seen and appears to occur instantaneously.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: The ghosts disappear right before the climax and we don't see any conclusion with them moving on.

to:

* WhatDidIDoLastNight: After his first rampage, David wakes up naked in the wolf pen at the zoo with no memory of what happened between sitting in Alex's apartment and now. In this case, the audience already knows perfectly what happened.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: The ghosts disappear right before the climax and we don't see any conclusion with them moving on.on (since only David could see them and he's dead).

* SciFiWritersHaveNoSenseOfScale: After being attacked, the main characters are taken from the Yorkshire Moors, in the North of England, where there are any number of good hospitals, to London, which is in the South. The contrast between the Moors and a northern city wouldn't have been as severe as with metropolitan London. This may have had something to do with the locals wanting the imminent carnivorous lunar activities as far away from them as possible - the doctor mentions that David's wounds were cleaned and dressed before he arrived.

I haven't seen the film in a while, but I do remember David being surprised that he ended up in London when he wakes up in the Hospital.

* ArtisticLicenseGeography: The film presents Yorkshire and London as being fairly close together, in spite of being on opposite ends of England. That said, it's far from implausible a man wounded as badly as David might be sent to a specialised hospital in the capital -- Doctor Hirsch deciding to take a roughly six-hour drive up to the moors on a whim, on the other hand...

In the dream sequence where werewolves and demons wearing Nazi uniforms kill David's family menorahs are visible on the mantel in the background. John Landis who wrote and directed the film was born into a Jewish family and has said that he based the dynamics of David and Jack's friendship on one of his own friendships. Additionally, in a 2001 interview Landis described David as a "Jewish American kid."

Moving some tropes to the Characters page

* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: David doesn't remember what he does in wolf form.

* DisposableVagrant: Although three of David's victims - Alf, Joseph and Ted - are homeless, their deaths are reported in the papers along with everyone else's, ''and'' their ghosts join David's other victims' in haunting him.

* EvilFeelsGood: David awakens from his first transformation feeling fantastic and re-energized, thinking he's just going crazy. Until he learns about the 6 people who were murdered, that is...

* HypercompetentSidekick: Sergeant [=McManus=] to Inspector Villiers. Although he's incredibly clumsy, [=McManus=] is more imaginative than the Inspector and is the first one to start believing David, only for Villiers to pretty much ignore him. He's also way less abrasive. [[spoiler:And after Villiers' death outside the porno theater, it is [=McManus=] who takes command.]]

* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: During his painful transformation David looks pleadingly into the camera and reaches out as if begging the audience to help him.

* MeanBoss: Villiers is always glaring at or cutting off [=McManus=] when he tries to ask the questions or voice an opinion, and also refuses to let him drink any of Dr. Hirsch’s tea.

* NiceJewishBoy: David definitely qualifies as this.

* OffWithHisHead: Bye bye, [[spoiler:Inspector Villiers]].

* ThePeterPrinciple: Inspector Villiers is far less competent than the men under his command.

* ReallyGetsAround: Price hints at this, abruptly describing her sexual history to David.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Doctor Hirsch tries to get to the bottom of David's mystery; when he finds out that Alex is in a relationship with David, he doesn't scold her for it, just wants to make sure that she is kept safe from harm.

* RetiredBadass: Dr. Hirsch references being a World War II veteran.

Forgetting the locals' advice to stay out of the moors, the two are soon attacked by a mysterious animal that kills Jack and wounds David before the locals gun it down. Before passing out, David noticed that the beast seemed to have been replaced with the body of a naked man. Waking up 3 weeks later in a London hospital, David is visited by Jack’s spirit who reveals that the beast who attacked them was a werewolf. He then tells his friend that he is now cursed to become a werewolf himself and warns him to take his life so that the previous wolf's victims can finally find peace in the afterlife… and because the night of the next full moon is only one week away.
