His introduction, while meant to be a childish prank, comes off as more of something out of a horror movie, with a BlobMonster taking human form while releasing a wave of predatory instinct. * SeriousBusiness: It turns out that proper eating is this to Teruteru. When he finds out that Katakuri has had nothing but donuts in his life, he is furious, running out with eyes blazing and dressing Katakuri down for his poor diet. Katakuri is unfazed, but does give the Ultimate Chef the chance to change his mind, a challenge Teruteru eagerly accepts.

*** While Makoto is one of [[TinySchoolboy the shortest males in the entire cast at 5'3]], Katakuri is [[LargeAndInCharge one of the tallest at 16'8]].

* NotSoAboveItAll: Just like in canon, this is one of Katakuri's traits. He usually comes off as a stoic, no-nonsense individual, but he is more than capable of being playful (his introduction is basically a massive, childish prank he drags Makoto into, and gets more than a little satisfaction in frightening Shuichi's group, particularly Kaito), and his love of donuts hasn't ceased in the slightest.

*** Makoto's greatest strengths are his [[ThePollyana optimism]] and [[MagneticHero ability to make friends with anyone]] while Katakuri's greatest strengths are his fighting prowess and [[ExperiencedProtagonist leadership experience]].

** Katakuri has a powerful BigBrotherInstinct that extends even to those not of his real family while [[spoiler: Junko is abusive to her older sister Mukuro]].

* ExcellentJudgeOfCharacter: Thanks to his experience on the Grand Line, Katakuri is able to note that Monokuma is primarily motivated by sadistic bloodlust and the desire to crush hope, and Katkauri exploits these traits to play the bear like a fiddle, telling him that if he kills all of the students at the beginning, he'll never be able to sate his bloodlust. He is able to better determine the personalities of Makoto's fellow classmates, being able to catch [[spoiler: Mukuro's struggles with acting like Junko, and even discerns that she's working with the mastermind due to familial ties, realizing that Junko is the BigBad]].

* WhatTheHellHero: After Makoto struggles to defend himself from the MisplacedRetribution of Toko, Tenko, and Hiyoko, the three of them get called out for their blaming of him and generally wasting time by the rest of the class.

* NewFriendEnvy: Tenko develops this as Himiko bonds more with Katakuri than her, not at all helped by the fact [[DoesNotLikeMen Katakuri is male]].
