By contrast, Nero, while trained by his mother, is more BrilliantButLazy, having gained most of his fighting experience sneaking out and doing battle against the demons of the isle's wilderness and developing a personalized fighting style. When the two come to blows, they wind up completely stalemating each other.

* ArmorPiercingQuestion: While King denies Nero’s assessment that Eda is his mum, he is notably stumped when asked how to define how he sees her.

** Edric and Emira, due to having been Nero's friends (of the {{tsundere}} variety) since childhood, are given more presence than they had in the main show. They even help Nero rescue Amity and Luz from Otabin where as in the canon episode, they had already left the library beforehand.
** Eda's living graffiti was just a one time joke in canon. Here, they're named [[NamedByTheAdaptation Graff]] and end up becoming friends with Nero.

* GoldDigger: Emira and Edric are tasked by their mother to get close to Nero, whose pedigree as the son of the head of the Emperor's Coven would be a boon to the Blight family. Emira and Edric go along with it, but only half-heartedly, as they find Nero's anti-social behavior to be grating to deal with. By the time they're in their teens, Nero isn't on ''bad'' terms with them, but he's not especially close either.

* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: When the aforementioned Slitherbeast was just about to kill Lilith, Nero, in blind rage, awakened his Devil Bringer and promptly crushed the beast with his new appendage.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Growing up, Nero was an adorable, exuberant CheerfulChild. As he grew into his teenage years, he lost his cheerfulness and became a vulgar tongued JerkWithAHeartOfGold.

* FantasticRacism:
** The demons of the lower circles of Hell don't have the highest opinion of the denizens of the Boiling Isles, calling them the "Titan's Parasites."
** As per canon, [[spoiler:Belos actually has this to any resident of the Isles, and his confrontation with Luz and Nero has him call the latter 'a Sparda' in a tone of obvious disgust; which makes sense, considering Belos's Puritan upbringing in a town of Witch Hunters. This would make the very idea of a demon saving humanity, as Sparda did, repugnant and absurd to him and cause him to despise all of the Dark Knight's kin. Not to mention that Sparda fell in love with a human, Eva, and that would probably stir unpleasant memories in Belos if he is aware of Nero's human heritage through his paternal grandmother]].

** Nero and Hunter/The Golden Guard. Both are teenage [[ChildProdigy magical prodigies from an early age]], and both are related to the highest authority figures on the isles (Lilith for Nero, Belos for Hunter). However, their first meeting highlights all their differences as well, with Nero being a rebel against authority while Hunter is unquestioningly loyal to the very same authority. Nero is very cavalier about swearing and is notoriously foul-mouthed, where as Hunter hates cursing, even being unable to finish a quote if it has a swear in it. While Nero possesses more magical power than he can properly manage, Hunter doesn't have any natural magic and relies on his artificial staff to generate it. Lastly, Nero's preferred clothing features dark colors, making him DarkIsNotEvil, contrasting Hunter's white and gold LightIsNotGood aesthetic.

** While initially elated to hear that his mother took him out of school for the day, Nero is disappointed to hear its to shadow her at the Emperors Coven. He still goes along with it, commenting that nothing interesting happens at Hexside... GilliganCut to Luz running from the Basilisk.

* DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation: In ''Devil May Cry 4'', Nero killed Bael via knocking him all over the place with a powerful punch using the Devil Bringer. Here, he uses the Devil Bringer to fire an overcharged, point blank spell into Bael's mouth, incinerating the upper half of his body.
* DisappearedDad: {{Discussed|Trope}}. Nero brings up at the Owl House that he never knew his father and was able to figure out later that he's the product of a drunken one-night stand. Luz is able to relate to him somewhat since she never knew her father either. This was before ''[[Recap/TheOwlHouseS2E14ReachingOut Reaching Out]]'' revealed that Luz's father had passed away a few years ago, but the chapter was later changed to align things more with the show's canon.

* EasilyForgiven:
** After Lilith confesses to her son that she's responsible for [[spoiler:cursing Eda]], he simply asks how they're gonna save his aunt. When Lilith questions why he doesn't despise her for what she did, Nero admits that he's angry, but he genuinely doesn't have it in him to hate her.
** Downplayed with Eda, as while she's willing to forgive Lilith for what she did, given that she helped rescue her and sacrificed her magic in doing so, she also makes it clear that she hasn't completely done so and tells her sister that she's still got a lot of making up to do (which entails her handling chores around the Owl House from then on).

* GoodGirlsAvoidAbortion: Played with in the first chapter. At first, Lilith contemplates getting one done when she realizes she's pregnant, but ultimately can't bring herself to go through with it, instead settling on setting the child up to be adopted after they're born. However, upon seeing her son for the first time, she instead decides to raise him as her own.

* InstantlyProvenWrong: While shadowing his mom during her job, Nero muses that, while boring, things are at least less boring than if he was stuck at Hexside for the day. Immediately cut to Luz fending off the Basilisk to show that things at Hexside are indeed not as boring as he thinks.
* IResembleThatRemark: Lilith tells Coronis that she's not jealous about Nero's relationship with Eda. She then proceeds to start listing all the ways that Eda's influence on his life has been better then hers... before immediately saying that the whole thing doesn't matter (understanding it's counterproductive to her point).

* TheNotLoveInterest: The Blight twins are Nero's first friends (despite his initial protests), have a fallout and reconciliation, and generally act as the people closest to his age that he has the easiest time confiding in, providing advice and emotional support regarding his issues with his mom. He even offers to accompany both of them to Grom when their dates stand them up. Despite this, both the narrative and WordOfGod make it clear that they see each other as friends, [[PlatonicLifePartners and nothing more]].

* OpenMouthInsertFoot: After learning that Nero has been named Grom King, Lilith angrily refuses to let Nero fight Grom, causing him to ask her if she thinks he can't win. After repeatedly asking her, Lilith finally explodes that no, she doesn't--which she immediately regrets after seeing that she's hurt Nero's feelings and she finally relents.

* PervertRevengeMode: During a previous week of Samhayne, Lilith spent a few minutes beating several ghosts within an inch of their unlives when they tried sneaking up on her while she was taking a shower.

* RejectedApology: Lilith tries to apologize to Amity for using her to one-up her sister, but she won't have it and yells at her to leave.
* RelativeButton: Harming or insulting Nero is a major way for Lilith to start threatening and brutalizing people. Kikimora, the Slitherbeast, and Hunter/The Golden Guard found this out the hard way.

* SurprisePregnancy: The entire story begins when Lilith unexpectedly winds up pregnant from a drunken one-night stand.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Lilith going to confront Eda over her influence on Nero is ''definitely'' because she wants to ensure her sons safety, and not ''at all'' to do with her being jealous of how much more easily the two have bonded.

* WackyCravings: Lilith gets these as one of the symptoms that she's pregnant--of course, being a witch, her cravings involve her eating more live birds than usual.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: Steve. See CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass. Nero even calls him the second (after Lilith) and one of the few competent members of Emperor's coven (to his own bewilderment).

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass:
** Steve comes across as overly exuberant and bumbling to most, but he does prove to be tougher than anyone expects. He was able to fend off Echidna's Chimera while most of the other Coven soldiers were killed. He even survives the fight against the Hellbats, casually sitting atop one of their corpses, much to Lilith's bewilderment.
** Hooty as well. Despite being exuberant and rather ditzy, he has defeated both Nero ''and'' Lilith in individual fights.

Even leaving out how his mother's issues with his aunt caused a lot of the plot of ''The Owl House'', unbeknownst to him his father and uncle have an even ''[[CainAndAbel worse]]'' relationship than any of the aforementioned siblings.
