* PacifiedAdaptation: While the Saga has its fair-share of action scenes (The Vikings vs The Madrigals, the Dragon Raids on Berk, the Screaming Death in the Encanto, etc), many of the more action-packed elements that carry over from the ''Franchise/HowToTrainYourDragon'' franchise are downplayed in favor of SliceOfLife elements from ''WesternAnimation/{{Encanto}}''.

This gets downplayed in ''Whiteout'', with the likes of [[KnightOfCerebus Drago Bludvist]] making things much more intense.

* ActionizedAdaptation: While ''WesternAnimation/HowToTrainYourDragon'' had its fair share of high stakes and fight-scenes, ''WesternAnimation/{{Encanto}}'' has NoAntagonist (or at least no [[CardCarryingVillain Card-Carrying Villains]] posing a physical threat) and is more of a SliceOfLife drama with [[MagicalRealism fantastical elements]], so the Madrigals using their magical gifts with combat-applications or riding dragons into battle would certainly qualify as this.

* AthensAndSparta: The Encanto and Berk respectively. Both are isolated societies that, through the space-time anomaly that let Hiccup and Toothless to the former, are now cultural allies to one another. While the Encanto is set in the heart of a tropical jungle, Berk is in a frigid island. While the Encanto is a culture built around peace in isolation, Berk is an island of warriors accustomed to danger and has coped with it through allyship with other islands in similar strife. Both are cultures with a love of celebration, but while the Encanto is musical and benign, Berk has a "hint of mania" that makes it fun, but also rather violent.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Like his canon-counterpart, Dagur winds up stranded by himself, slowly being driven to madness (or ''more'' madness) by the isolation. * AnachronismStew: The events of ''Encanto'' are left {{ambiguous|Time Period}}, but it's best guessed as happening somewhere between the late 1800's and TheFifties. ''How to Train Your Dragon'' however is happening in the Viking Age (793–1066 CE), so the odds of these two plots sharing a parallel time-table is slim to none. This is implied to be because of a [[OurTimeMachineIsDifferent space-time anomaly that takes the form of a golden storm-cloud]], itself implied to be another product of the Madrigal Miracle.

Hiccup and Toothless both escape Berk after he is outed as a "traitor". With nowhere to go, they fly endlessly until they suddenly crash land in the outskirts of an isolated town in a completely different country. There he learns two important things: magic is real, and maybe he had finally found a home.
